Wow, we've just received a hefty review copy of music journalist David Sheppard’s forthcoming On Some Faraway Beach: The Life and Times of Brian Eno (Chicago Review Press) from Independent Publishers Group. Due in stores in May, the book provides the “first in-depth look at the life of one of rock’s most extraordinary and eclectic musicians — theorist, painter, producer, and conceptual artist Brian Eno.”

Formerly of Roxy Music, Brian Eno is best known in the music world for his production work with such artists as David Bowie, Talking Heads, Devo, Coldplay, and U2. Talking Heads vocalist David Byrne performed a concert billed as “An Evening with David Byrne: Songs of David Byrne and Brian Eno” at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center last December. Eno collaborated with Byrne on the 1981 album My Life in the Bush of Ghosts. The pair assembled a recent studio album together titled Everything That Happens Will Happen Today.

On Some Faraway Beach also spills fascinating, never-before-revealed details on Eno’s prolific sex life and offers a great portrait of the 1970s music industry,” reads the press kit. “Few music collections remain untouched by Eno’s aesthetic, and music fans will appreciate this biography on one of the most influential musicians of the 20th century.”

We’ve already placed the review copy of On Some Faraway Beach in City Paper staffer John Edward Royall’s eager hands … look for a review mid-month.
