Rock Camp in Mt. Pleasant

Oh, to be young and eager to rock! A handful of local musicians have stepped up to the duties of mentors and instructors at a recent “rock camp” series in Mt. Pleasant. Josh Kaler (of Slow Runner, Hair-e-oke), Jack Burg (of Cary Ann Hearst’s band, SKWZBXX), and Kevin Hanley (of The Specs, Chord & Pedal) stayed busy this week at the Creative Spark Center in Mt. Pleasant. (located at 757 Long Point Road). “We’ve got nearly 20 kids aged 9-16 rockin’ out together,” reports Hanley, the Bill Murray (circa his Meatballs era) of the bunch. “I gotta tell you, after just two days, it’s sounding better than half the bands I’ve been in.” The kids perform a concert finale on Fri. Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. at the facility’s recital hall.
