The planet’s “best party band” The B-52’s plan to dance it down at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach this Fri. Aug. 3. Fred, Cindy, Kate, and Keith will be performing new songs at all their live shows this summer and “have updated some of your old favorites.” It’s the first chance to hear new music from their upcoming album, Funplex, due this fall.

My old Athens, Ga. colleague JoE Silva (Joe with a big E, yes) had a small feature on the Athens, Ga.-born band published in the July issue of Mojo Magazine (the best music periodical out there) in which guitarist Keith Strickland describes the new stuff as “the most rock record we ever made … it also has strong electronic overtones, thanks to the beat programming of Pete Davis and producer Steve Osborne.”

Tickets for the gig are available for $37.50. Showtime is 9 p.m.
