Tea time is the best time

The historic St. Philip's Church has announced the dates for their annual Tea Room. The event will take place April 29-May 3 between 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m.

In recent years, the tea room was open earlier in April, but we're pretty stoked about this year's timing — it doesn't get much sweeter weather-wise than Charleston in early May. For five days only, guests will have the opportunity to enjoy a delicious lunch of Lowcountry favorites made by the church's parishioners. All proceeds from the Tea Room will go to St. Philip's local and international missions, plus the youth ministries and choir.

The menu includes classics like okra soup, chicken salad, and shrimp salad. Save room for dessert with treats like Hummingbird Cake, Huguenot Torte, and Grand Marnier cheesecake. On top of all soups, salads, and baked goods, St. Philip's Church will also be selling homemade items and souvenirs in their gift shop and will be open for tours of the historic building.

The Tea Room was created in 1952 under the Women's Auxiliary and was named the "Tea Garden." In honor of this original title, the modern Tea Room offers guests ample outdoor seating in the scenic courtyard, or on the Parish Hall's veranda. Inside seating will also be available with a pianist playing as guests dine.

Want to participate in tea time but you're chained to your desk? The church is also doing takeout orders with delivery available to downtown dwellers. Call (843) 722-7291 to place your order.
