Less than a year old, Commonhouse Aleworks is already expanding its outdoor seating area

Bigger beer

If you're seeking common ground with your neighbors, look no further than Commonhouse Aleworks. Already a Park Circle hotspot, the brewery announced last night on social media that they would be expanding their outdoor seating area, dubbing it "Commonground."

The renderings include a space for synthetic turf (which means kids and/or fitness pop-ups), more chairs and umbrella-covered tables, space for bocce and "yard pong," and a stage. The Instagram post says they'll eventually use the bigger yard as an event space, too.

Commonhouse owner and chief of hoperations Hank Hanna says they hope to have Commonground up and running by the weekend of Nov. 10 (just in time for Rockabillaque). As far as where food trucks and pop-ups will be stationed, Hanna says they'll be able to pull up on Stones Alley which will make it easier for them to get in and out. And the stage will help highlight their new Sunday bluegrass brunch series, which Hanna says "has been a real hit."

"We have established ourselves as the neighborhood brewery for Park Circle, so expanding that space where people can gather and enjoy our beer and each other is the goal of Commonground," says Hanna. Commonhouse opened on O'Hear Avenue in January of this year.

"People are, by nature, social creatures who long for exploration, romance, artistic expression, imagination, and innovation to create a vibrant civilization. It has always been our mission to foster these drives through social lubrication and to produce a product that people desire to congregate around. Our desire is for people to gather together, enjoy life, be passionate, share a laugh and make an impact and that is what this space is for."

Can't wait 'til Nov. 10 to sit back and enjoy the fruits of their labor? Go check out the Commonground progress and have a Looking East IPA (or three) Tues.-Thurs. from 4 to 9 p.m., Fri. and Sat. noon to 10 p.m., and Sun. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
