"This was never meant to be a Charleston event — it’s not for Charleston but for the beverage industry,” BevCon founder Angel Postell told Post & Courier Thursday in a story announcing that her beverage industry conference would move to Los Angeles in 2018. After two years hosting the event in Charleston, Postell — the former Charleston Wine + Food festival director — is shifting BevCon to the West Coast.

According to Stephanie Barna's P&C report, the move was made to secure "bigger sponsorships and better venues." According to a press release from Postell, that means the LINE Hotel in Koreatown where gourmet Korean taco truck owner Chef Roy Choi runs food and beverage program. As for sponsors, SevenFifty and Brewers Assn. have already signed on and Postell says she's waiting on signed agreements from others.

The two day conference is designed to be a continuing education experience for beverage professionals with panels, classes, lunches, and parties. The price tag is $600, though Postell adds that she'll offer an early-bird rate of $50 off for the first few weeks tickets go on sale. A day pass with tickets available by the class will also be available, though those prices have not yet been set.

As in years past, Postell is now working to lineup speakers and those interested
can apply online beginning Fri. Dec. 15.

"Presentations can cover a wide range of topics as they relate to the beverage industry, and can be done as a workshop, a visual presentation, a panel discussion, or a tasting/technique format. Subjects of interest include bar operations, education, beverage making, professional development, management, legal and business operations, and media and marketing," a press release says. The application deadline is Fri. Feb. 3.

BevCon 2018 will be held Aug. 19-21. For more information, visit bevcon.org.
