You've seen the BKeD food truck around town, serving up brownies with graham cracker crust, samoa bars topped with toasted coconut, chocolate chip and pecan cookies — you get the idea. Owners Christopher and Keila Garate moved to Charleston from Brooklyn three years ago with the dream of opening a bakery.

And now those dreams are starting to come to fruition, with Christopher telling us that the couple's first brick-and-mortar, BKeDSHoP, will open in downtown's Westedge (a new, 50-acre mixed-use research community) in March 2018. "BKeDSHoP will serve American classic bakery treats with a focus on Donuts," says Garate. The store will also feature hand-rolled artisan pretzels, milkshakes using local milk, and other nostalgic treats.

Garate says that BKeDSHoP will source products from Lowcountry creamery, Fili-West Farms, Bullsbay, and Charleston Coffee Roasters. You can find BKeD at the Charleston Farmers Market until BKeDSHoP opens next year.
