In light of yesterday's shooting at Virginia's restaurant that resulted in the death of Executive Chef Shane Whiddon, many members of the community have stepped forward to try to help Whiddon's wife and two sons.

Here's how you can help.

2Nixons is giving all of their gratuity to the staff of Virginia's for the next two pop-ups:
tonight at Charles Towne Fermentory from 5 to 10 p.m. and tomorrow night at Craft Conundrum from 5 to 10 p.m.

Alex Harris, co-owner of Charleston Pour House, says that the venue will  be holding a fundraiser for the Whiddon family Sept. 9 from noon to 6 p.m. Chefs will be selling dishes, and Pour House will be selling alcohol donated by sponsors, with all proceeds going to the Whiddons. They will be asking for a minimum $10 donation at the door.

A GoFundMe has been set up by Whiddon neighbor Terri Thomas Wall of Goose Creek. As of 4:30 p.m. this afternoon, more than $41,000 had been raised in under 17 hours.

The Explore Charleston and Greater Charleston Restaurant Association, on behalf of Bennett Hospitality, have set up a no fee account for donations to Whiddon's family. You can make checks payable to Chef Shane Whiddon Memorial Account, address 423 King St. Charleston SC 29403, or drop off at any Wells Fargo Bank.

Holy City Hospitality is in charge of Whiddon's memorial, to be held Sun. Aug. 27 at 3 p.m. at the Historic Rice Mill. Email amanda@holycityhospitality.com if you want to help or if you have any images of Shane and his family that can be used.

Jason McKinney, a Chef currently based in Napa, who worked with Chef Shane and his wife Shannon, would like to set up a pop-up dinner in Charleston to benefit the Whiddon family. Needs: 4-6 others chef to participate (One course per chef), vendors and wine donations, space or restaurant to volunteer space, $250 per person.
You can call Jason at 404-630-2019 to start organizing and selling tickets.

From 2-5 out in the Bower at Edmund's Oast, they're donating 100% proceeds to the Whiddon family GoFundMe.

On Tues. Sept. 5 from 5-7 p.m. Cannon Green hosts a Taco Tuesday to benefit the Whiddon family. 100 percent of proceeds from the evening will go to the Whiddons.
