  • Food Truck-O-Rama should be open by late summer
It's been two years since we first reported on the possibility of business partners Bill Murray, Brad Creger, and Mike Veeck's Food Truck-O-Rama ( 2130 Mt. Pleasant St.), but finally Creger tells us the team has broken ground on the project. If construction goes smoothly, the Mt. Pleasant Street food truck depot and bar should be open by the end of this summer.

"It's about time Charleston had something like this," says Creger. While cities like Austin and Portland have made spaces for food truck hubs, Charleston has sufficed with rodeos and pop-ups. Food Truck-O-Rama is in response to a need Creger says he sees in the food community. "This won't just be for food trucks, but for pop-ups like someone like 2Nixons," he says of Jeffrey Stoneberger's ramen operation. "We'll be a place for everyone whether it's a truck, a coffee cart, whatever."

We got a sneak peek of the latest draft of the Food Truck-O-Rama plan and here's how it will operate. On the right hand side of the lot, five food trucks could plug in. In the middle of the space there will be a building housing indoor and rooftop dining with a containership bar called, naturally, Container Bar. The right side of the property will have numerous parking spaces stretched parallel to the overpass and behind the building.

Creger has already spoken to many local food truck vendors and says some of the most respected in the community are already behind the project.

Look for Food Truck-O-Rama to open as early as August.
