It’s no easy feat to keep track of Charleston’s growing brewery scene. Each time we add a new brewery to our list, another three announce their arrival. So forgive us if we’ve left anyone out.  

Production Breweries:

COAST Brewing Co.
Address: 1250 N 2nd St., North Charleston
Owners: David Merritt and Jamie Tenny
Head Brewer: David Merritt
Opened in: 2007
Owners and spouses Merritt and Tenny oversee the operation. The couple is also credited with spearheading the passage of the Pop the Cap in South Carolina.

Cooper River Brewing Company
2201-B Mechanic St., Downtown
Owners: Jamie Martin, Michael Gates, and Dustin Pait
Head Brewer: Mike Fesche
Opened in: 2015
Cooper River Brewing is fresh on the downtown Charleston beer scene.

The Frothy Beard Brewing Company
7358 Peppermill Pkwy., North Charleston
Owners: Michael Biondi, Joseph Siconolfi, Steve McCauley, Wesley Donehue, and Desiree Hunter
Head brewer: Joseph Siconolfi (in conjunction with Michael Biondi and Steve McCauley)
Opened in: 2013
The guys over at Frothy Beard like to take their beer names from epic novels by greats like Tolkien

Ghost Monkey Brewery
522 Wando Lane, Mt. Pleasant
Owners: John Kosky, Josh Parker, Jim Leonard and Patrick Davis
Head brewers: Jim Leonard, and Patrick Davis
Opened in: 2016
The owners were all former IT guys who opened the brewery after, we presume, burning down their office because of a stolen stapler.

Holy City Brewing
4155 Dorchester Road, N. Charleston
Owners: Joel Carl, Sean Nemitz, Mac Minaudo, and Chris Brown
Head brewer: Chris Brown
Opened in: 2011
Holy City is well known for its beloved and award-winning Pluff Mud Porter and Washout Wheat beers.

Lo-Fi Brewing
2038 Meeting Street Road, North Charleston
Owner: Jason Caughman
Head brewer: Jason Caughman
Opened in: 2015
Lo-Fi brews beers like Lo-Fi Blueberry and Lo-Fi IPA.

Low Tide Brewing
2863 Maybank Hwy, Johns Island
Owner: Mike Fielding
Head brewer: Andy Elliot
Opened in: 2016
Low Tide likes to partner with local chefs to create custom beers for their menu items like Fat Hen’s Brewdy Peach Habanero IPA.

Palmetto Brewing Co.
289 Huger St., Downtown
Owner: John Planty
Head brewer: Tanael Escartin
Opened in: 1993
Palmetto is the oldest still operating brewery in South Carolina, as well as the home of the state’s only head female brewer.

Revelry Brewing Co.
10 Conroy St., Downtown
Owners: Sean Fleming, Ryan Coker, and Jay Daratony
Head brewer: Ryan Coker
Opened in: 2014
Revelry is preparing to open a rooftop bar and tasting room this fall.

Snafu Brewing Company
3280 Industry Drive, North Charleston
Owners: Scott and Julie Koon
Head brewer: Scott Koon
Opened in: 2016
Husband and wife Scott and Julie Koon decided to open their own brewery after Scott’s stint as the brewmaster at Westbrook Brewing. They hope to have their own tasting room open by the end of the year.

Tradesman Brewing Co.
1639 Tatum Street, James Island
Owners: Chris Winn, Scott and Sara Gayle McConnell
Head brewer: Chris Winn
Opened in: 2014
Tradesman is James Island’s first brewery.

Freehouse Brewery
2895 Pringle St, North Charleston

Opened in: 2013
All of Freehouse’s beer is certified organic.

Westbrook Brewing
510 Ridge Road, Mt. Pleasant
Owner: Edward Westbrook
Head brewer: Edward Westbrook
Opened in: 2010
Westbrook has become the stuff of legend thanks to its cult classic Mexican Cake, an Imperial Stout.

Two Blokes Brewing
547 Long Point Road #101, Mt. Pleasant
Owners: Matty Symons, Sean Geddis, Brittany Ballinger, and Evelyn Koffer

Two Blokes just opened their tasting room in Mt. Pleasant.

Fat Pig Brewing Company

Fat Pig is currently constructing a bar and has a fairly active Instagram account.

Fatty’s Beer Works

Soon to be open at 1436 Meeting St.

Fatty’s plans to open up a big tasting room and facility on Meeting Street by the end of this year.

Pawleys Island Brewing Co.

Petaluma, Calif.'s Lagunitas Brewery inked a deal to takeover Southend back in June. They’ll reopen the space at the end of September.

Oak Road Brewery

Opened in: 2015
Jogglin Board and Vienna Lager
Oak Road is Summerville’s first and only brewery.
