After a decade with Fish Restaurant, Chef Nico Romo moving on

With its giant Tricolour waving above it each Bastille Day and its standard bearer leading the kitchen, Fish has always felt more like a French restaurant to me than a combination of French and Asian cuisine. Perhaps it's the vision of the Can-Can girls on the bar and French fry guillotine Fish rolled out one July 14 that I just can't get out of my head. At any rate, Fish owes its Gallic flavor to the French-born-and-educated Chef and Culinary Executive Director Nico Romo who has led the King Street restaurant for nearly a decade. Today, Patrick Properties, which owns the restaurant, announced that Romo is departing.

According to a press release from the company, Romo will end his time at Fish at the end of the summer to pursue a new venture.

“We are immensely grateful for Nico’s outstanding talent and vision that has helped drive the many accomplishments of our culinary program over the past decade,” said Randall Goldman, CEO of PPHG says in a press release. “Nico is a rising star, and moving on is part of the evolution for any successful chef. I am proud of him for taking this next career step and look forward to what lays ahead for him.”

During his tenure at the property, Romo was named a French Master Chef (Maîtres Cuisiniers de France) and honored as a leading voice in the Monterey Bay Aquarium’s Seafood Watch® Blue Ribbon Task Force.

Patrick Properties has not announced Romo's replacement.
