Get your beer on at local breweries this weekend

There's always something cool going on at Charleston's breweries so we did y'all a favor and compiled a list of this weekend's best events. You're welcome.


Head to the Brew Cellar from 6-10 p.m. for a taste of some brand new collab beers created by Frothy Beard and Holy City. Bring your sweet tooth because these brews are dessert-lover friendly: Each brewery has taken the other's beer and infused it with chocolate flavors. AutoBanh will provide the eats and Sweeteeth chocolates will be on hand to pair oh so well with the beers.

Holy City turns four on Saturday, and they're not letting the anniversary pass quietly. From noon to 9 p.m. (and hey, maybe later) the brewery will host a day chock full of live music, food, and lots and lots of beer. We're talkin' 23 beers on tap. In a nostalgic move, Holy City has brought back their original bar (which had five taps) and set it up in the packaging room. Those will only come in 10 oz. pours, so get there before they're gone. 

The five beer tap list is: Wicked City, an imperial stout with honey and brain strain peppers; The quintuple, a 13.9% abv French saison (thank goodness for 10 oz. pours); El Ancianco, Old Man Helles aged in tequila barrels; El Chucktown Follicle Browno which is Spanish for Chucktown Follicle Brown aged in tequila barrels; and a two-year whisky barrel-aged collision stout. There will also be a cask of Yeast Wrangler and a kiddie pool with $3 mystery cans. Oh, yeah, and the food. Bob Cook from Artisan Meat Share will be preparing sausage from a Legare Farms pig that was fed Holy City spent grain and pecans. For $8 a plate you can get your choice of sausage with two sides like spaetzle salad and creamed mustard greens.

For more live music than you can shake a stick at, head to the Hearts & Plugs Summer Shindig at Palmetto Brewing from 1-10 p.m. The gig is pink flamingo themed so we feel like we don't need to say anymore to sell you on it. Tickets are $20 and capacity caps at 500 so grab yours before they run out. Palmetto will have its latest release, Homefront IPA, on tap. And 100 percent of its proceeds going to Soldiers' Angels, a volunteer organization that assists veterans, deployed personnel, and their families. Smoked Blueberry Kush, a belgian style witbier brewed with S.C. blueberries and smoked malt will also be available.

BKeD food truck will be making its Frothy Beard debut (and actual debut — come support the new guys!) on Saturday, so come out from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. to try some of their baked goods. 

The John Lewis summer barbecue series at Revelry is eventually going to end and you're going to be sad if you miss it. Come out while you still can to grab some 'cue and brews (Lean and Fat really quenches the Saturday afternoon thirst). Don't forget you can order ahead of time and grab the 'cue before the line gets too long. 


Babes are brewin' in two places this weekend. Due to a chiller issue last weekend the BREWSTER series couldn't brew at Tradesman. Fear not, they're back on this Sunday from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Frothy Beard will also be brewing during those hours, so pick your (hop-infused) poison: Frothy Beard's Arnold Palmer Amber or Tradesman's Trappist-style Ale with John's Island honey.
