On July 14, 1789, a bunch of French men and women fed up with the aristocracy stormed the Bastille, freeing political prisoners and the like and ultimately starting the French Revolution. Over two hundred years later foodies around the world celebrate the day with French food and fanfare. Local restaurants are joining in the fun with Bastille day-themed menus and events. Check 'em out.

From 5-9:30 p.m. Bistro Toulouse will feature chef specials like mussels and frites, homemade sausages, and a Kronenbourg and cheese pairing ($12), as well as $6 glasses of champagne and featured white and red wine flights. You can make your reservation here.

Brasserie Gigi cries Liberte! with its Bastille day menu, which includes a smoked trout pate, butter poached lobster, and a chocolate mousse with baked meringue. Oh, and did we mention the $6 glasses of rose all night? Make your reservation by calling (843) 722-6393.

Fish is doing Bastille Day up big, with a couple of dining options. In what we can only assume is a tongue-in-cheek addition, Fish will offer the "Princes" four-course traditional French meal in the main dining room at 7 p.m.; for reservations call (843) 722-3474. Rowdy "Patriots" can feast on more casual fare, like the Sloppy Louis, upstairs and at the Fish bar starting at 5:30 p.m. There will be champagne specials and cocktails to help you wash down all those pommes frites. 

Annie's Bistro will offer an authentic French menu with three courses for $30. Appetizer choices include escargot and charcuterie while entrees will include coq au vin and fresh catch of the day. Call (843) 352-7690 for reservations.

The Fat Hen will have special wine features as well as a celebration in The Coop, their outdoor area. 

If you prefer to cook your French food, head to Southern Season for the Summer in France class and learn about classic French cuisine and techniques. There are no longer tickets to this popular event, so call (855) 716-1240 to get on the waitlist.
