The Macintosh brings chefs Kevin Gillespie, Vish Bhatt, and Steven Satterfield to Charleston

Host with the most

Like a lot of hosts, when the Charleston Wine + Food Festival comes to town many local chefs find themselves in the kitchen with little time to socialize with chef friends. Wanting more experimenting time with his chef pals, The Macintosh's Chef Jeremiah Bacon decided to do something about it by hosting some parties: the Southern Chef Roast series.

One night a month, October through December, Bacon plans to bring in a guest chef to The Mac to prepare a family-style meal cooked on the restaurant's new outside grill. And the lineup looks very promising:

Tues. Oct. 21: Chef Kevin Gillespie of Gunshow, Atlanta, GA

Wed. Nov. 19: Chef Vish Bhatt of Snack Bar, Oxford, MS

Thurs. Dec. 4: Chef Steven Satterfield of Miller Union, Atlanta, GA

You may recall Gillespie from last year's Waffle House Smackdown event. The author and former Top Chef contestant just missed the coveted Master Blaster title to Chef Chris Shepard of Houston's Underbelly. But what Gillespie lacked in execution, he more than made up for in humor. One can expect his pairing with Bacon will be a hilarious affair.

In November, Snack Bar's Bhatt pays a visit. Bhatt grew up in India but incorporates European influences into his Southern cooking. Oh yeah, and he was nominated for a James Beard Award last year. As for Satterfield, he too was a top-five James Beard Award finalist for Best Chef: Southeast in 2013 and 2014. Suffice it to say, Bacon has big name friends. And showcasing their talent in the Holy City is what the Southern Chef Roast series is all about.

“The outside patio at The Macintosh is such a fun, intimate space and we have wanted to host some of our favorite Southern chefs to come cook out there with us,” says Bacon in a press release. “We have done this some during the Charleston Wine + Food Festival and will continue for that event as well as throughout the year. We think it will be a great time for the guests and an opportunity to host some incredible chefs.”

Each roast will feature beverage pairings. Tickets are $85 plus gratuity and tax. We're told the dinners will continue next year as well, and eventually serve as fundraisers for culinary efforts, however those details have yet to be finalized.
