Charleston heats up the Food Network

Hot bites

A slew of locals will appear on the Food Networks’ Heat Seekers Charleston episode tonight.

Filmed a couple months ago, Heat Seekers came to town in search of the “true meaning of Southern heat.” Hosts Aaron Sanchez and Roger Mooking found it via the likes of the oyster shooter at Pearlz, the jalapeño mac and cheese at Hello My Name Is ... BBQ, the spicy sriracha donuts from the Little Blue Brunch Truck, and the killer nachos with Death Relish salsa at Home Team BBQ.

Scott Wink over at Charleston Food Bloggers got a chance to interview Sanchez when he was in town and learned his secret to cooling off: sour cream or yogurt mixed with sugar. “A couple of spoonfuls of that will take about 80-90 percent of the capsaicin off your palate.”

Tune in tonight at 10 p.m. for the episode. It replays at 1 a.m.
