Back in 2016, Cone 10 Studios' owner Susan Gregory told us that she expected the building to close, dependent on the plans of the building's owners. After years of uncertainty, though, Gregory now says that Cone 10 will be out of its current location at 1080 Morrison Drive by this June 30, 2019.

Gregory says that the developer buying 1080 Morrison plans on demolishing the building to make way for new office spaces.

While Cone 10 will not relocate entirely to a new space, Gregory says that she is creating a shared artist space in the Union Heights Neighborhood in southern North Charleston, where she plans on teaching ceramics classes and hosting other instructors. "I have wanted to open a simply-organized, multi-media space that offers affordable rent for artists and this seems to be my chance," she says.

Gregory notes that Cone 10 has other members looking to create a space similar to what Cone 10 is currently, a place with part- and full-time potters and classes that focus strictly on ceramics.

"My hope is that Cone 10 will have multiple offshoots and we'll proliferate art space rather than see it go in Charleston," she says.

Cone 10 plans on hosting one final exhibit this May; stay tuned for details on that.
