Join the Charleston Gospel Choir at the 17th annual gospel Christmas concert at Burke High School on Sat. Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. The performance, conducted by acclaimed conductor Dr. Eugene Rogers, will feature an orchestra of regional musicians performing gospel favorites, spirituals, and festive holiday arrangements. Tickets are $35 and can be purchased at the door, online, or by calling (866) 811-4111.

The Charleston Gospel Choir performs traditional spirituals in addition to "toe-tapping" compositions such as "Go Tell It on the Mountain," "O Holy Night," and "Silver & Gold."

Rogers, an associate professor and conductor of the University of Michigan Men's glee club, was recently named National Chair for the American Choral Directors Association Diversity Initiatives Standing Committee. “I am honored to share wonderful holiday music in Charleston during my first visit to the Holy City. Music and the holidays bring the joy of giving and love into our lives and is a wonderful way for families to be together,” says Rogers.

Lee Pringle, producer and president of the Charleston Gospel Choir, says that this concert's venue — Burke High School — is especially important to the choir. “The Charleston Gospel Choir origins are deeply rooted at historic Burke High School; the original campus was the location for the first five years of rehearsal preparation," he says. "We are excited to return to Burke this holiday season—their world-class auditorium provides the perfect setting for telling the Christmas story."
