Stephen Colbert named 'Bad Hombre of the Year' in GQ magazine

He's always our man of the year

As part of their annual naming of "Men of the Year," GQ honored a Charleston native — none other than late-night host Stephen Colbert, who took home the title of Bad Hombre of the Year. Colbert joins Colin Kaepernick as GQ's Citizen of the Year, Kevin Durant as Champion of the Year, and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman of the Year.

In the story, out today, "Stephen Colbert Makes America Great," writer Anna Peele sits down with Colbert for a little Q&A. When asked how Trump's election changed Colbert's relationship with his audience, Colbert says, "Perhaps they sense how grateful I am to be onstage with them. I need this job. I get the same sort of release that I think the audience is looking for."

And, Colbert even admits to wanting to give Trump the benefit of the doubt, as part of his goal of "looking for community." Says Colbert, "There's an aspect of wanting to love other people, you know? ...Nobody wants to hear the word 'love.' That's a four-letter word. That's a comedy-killer. Because while it's a happy idea, love is very serious. It's not the sort of thing you should say out loud. I'm even hesitant to say it out loud in this interview. I want to give people the benefit of the doubt. Even the president! When he started, I said, 'Give him a chance but not an inch.'”
