Nothing says back to school like a good ol' fashioned debate about religion, right? Join Dr. Ed Buckner, former president of American Atheists, and Dr. Wallace Marshall, Charleston Director of Reasonable Faith for a discussion called, "Is America a Christian Nation? Was it ever? Should it be?" Dr. Herb Silverman, founder of the Secular Humanists of the Lowcountry, moderates the free talk, held at the CofC School of Science and Math auditorium on Thurs. Aug. 17 at 7 p.m.

American Atheists is a nonprofit "dedicated to defending the civil liberties of atheists and advocating for the complete separation of church and state." Reasonable Faith is an organization that "aims to provide an intelligent, articulate, and uncompromising yet gracious Christian perspective on the most important issues concerning the truth of Christian faith today."

And if all that talk of atheism gets your brain titillated, then hold onto your butts because the national convention of American Atheists is being held in Charleston this year, Aug. 19-21. The conventions lines up with this year's solar eclipse, so you better believe there will be an eclipse viewing party on Mon. Aug. 21 at 2 p.m., complete with viewing glasses and snacks.
