Have you ever joined a Second Line? It's a guaranteed good time — with the live jazz playing in your ears you're free to join in the spirit of New Orleans, flinging Mardi Gras beads and dancing along however you damn well please. You have the opportunity to do just that this Saturday with the third annual Jazz Crawl for Charity, which kicks off at 4 p.m. at Bay Street Biergarten. Tickets are $25 and you can buy them online.

Your ticket purchase makes you an official member of the Krewe, which means you have access to Mardi Gras beads (of course), drink specials, complimentary snacks, and entry into the drawing for the crowning of the Royal Court of the Krewe. The party starts at Biergarten, with the Second Line moving to Republic around 5 p.m. and then to Prohibition around 6:15 p.m.

The live brass band features jazz musicians selected by Charleston Symphony Orchestra's Chris Bluemel and this year's notable addition is Cameron Handel, who most recently toured with Michael Bolton before returning to the Charleston music scene.

The jazz crawl donates instruments to local youth organizations and this year eight students from the Allegro Charter School of Music have been chosen as recipients.
