In this year's Best of Charleston issue we called Avondale's SpaceCraft Studios the "best pitstop on the way to a birthday party," because of its funky cool gift items. If you're hoping to make such a pitstop, do it now, because the craft store — known for hosting workshops like wood burning, fabric block-printing, and string art — is closing up shop.

Owner Allison Merrick writes in an email, "As you may have read or heard, it's time for us to peace out and close up the brick and mortar shop." The store closes after three years of serving the city's local makers. But the bummer comes with a bonus — a mega craft supply garage sale happening now through Tues. Sept. 15.

Here are a few of the items crafters can snag this weekend:

A giant wooden work table (97"x50"): $500 (does not include cutting mat)
Aluminum channel letters: $20 - $30
Mason jars and all glass items: 50¢
Remaining retail items: 25% off
a giant bolt of pink cotton chenille to make many quilts or pillows (18 yards): $50 (retail value of about $200)
electric Smith-Corona typewriter $40
manual Webster typewriter $15 (space bar issues)
furnishings (tbd, available for pick-up after about 9/24)
irons, ironing boards: $4-8.
various supplies
fabric (vintage): $5/pound, or as labeled
yarn: $1/ounce
books: $2, or as labeled
Mounted unicorn head: $71.25
Tropical terrariums: $30-40

The store will be open 10 a.m -3 p.m. for sale shoppers except on Monday when it's by appointment only. To schedule an appointment, call (843) 284-6253.
