What started as a small, local improv theater back in 2000 is fast becoming an East Coast stop for national comedians making the tour circuit.

In the past year, Theatre 99 has welcomed Nick Thune, Wyatt Cenac, Kyle Kinane, and Johnny Pemberton — all of whom have Comedy Central or Netflix specials, Hollywood movies, and TV shows to their names.

And the best part is, co-owners Brandy Sullivan and Greg Tavares don’t even have to ask these guys to come. “We are getting more and more requests from New York- and L.A.-based stand ups to do shows here,” Sullivan says. “They are the real deal.”

The latest one in that lineup is Mark Normand, a stand up and actor who’s appeared on Late Night with Conan O’Brien and Comedy Central’s @Midnight. He was a finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing in 2014, and was voted Village Voice’s Best Comic of 2013. There’s more, but you get the idea.

We’d characterize Normand’s shtick as likeable-edgy — he’s got some race jokes and some gay jokes, but they’re never mean. His boyish looks and demeanor help keep things in the nice zone, too.

He’ll take the T99 stage this Fri. July 10 at 10 p.m., and tickets are $15. Snag ’em via
