Robert Lange's new exhibit opens tomorrow

Big paintings, quiet minds

Posted by Connelly Hardaway on Thu, Jul 2, 2015 at 12:12 PM

Robert Lange, co-owner of Robert Lange Studios, presents his first solo exhibit in over a year. Titled One's, the exhibit features works that focus on meditation, a daily practice that Lange holds near and dear to his heart — and mind. In a description of the exhibit, Lange writes, "This cultivation of self-awareness has allowed me to more poignantly direct the subject of my paintings towards the subject matter and concepts I personally believe in."

Art magazine American Art Collector recently discussed Lange's body of work and how meditation fits into his daily life and art practice. Creating more than 1,000 (wowza) paintings over the past 15 years, Lange has found his "reset button" in the practice of quieting his mind. "While some preconceived notions of meditation may border on it being foreign or froufrou, Lange says one of the reasons he looks forward to the exhibition is to expand viewers' definition of meditation, to push it forward as a fluid concept of allowing oneself to be present in a quiet or central space," says Collector. We just like that they used the word froufrou.

Lange's pieces are oil on panel. Tomorrow's opening is free and open to the public and will be held at Robert Lange Studio from 5-8 p.m. The pieces will be on display until July 29.
