This Saturday, the Jail Break Music and Arts Festival will once again fill the corridors of the Old City Jail with artists, musicians, dancers, comedians, poets, and all the debauchery that comes with them.

Founder Andrew Walker of Entropy Arts tells us this festival’s theme is Vogue: Visual Vanity. “We started doing themes last fall to shake things up and to give the participating artists something different to do every time,” he says. “The challenge is to do something that pulls from a trend, or things that are popular or prevalent, and exaggerating those things, because vanity is all about exaggeration.”

DanceFX will host a series of live dance performances throughout the night, leading up to a vogue-off with participants from a variety of dance and professional backgrounds. Voguing is a kind of dancing started by drag queens in Harlem ballrooms in the 1980s. A panel of judges will select a reigning Queen of Vogue.

In addition to the dance entertainment, there will be standup comedy throughout the night from more than 15 performers. The show will bring back two no-longer-locals — Dusty Slay, who recently moved to Nashville, will host and Evan Berke, who now lives in New York, produces.

In the poetry room, poets will present dramatic spoken-word renditions of hits from pop stars like Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, and Britney Spears. Marcus Amaker will host. The fashion exhibits will feature live models displaying the fashion world of vogue, and works from a variety of artists and craft artisans will be on exhibit and available for purchase. The music stage outside features Hearts & Plugs newcomer Grace Joyner, the Garage Cuban Band, The Tarlatans, and Sol Driven Train.

Autobahn FoodTruck, Hello My Name Is … BBQ, and Dulce Truck will all be on site provide food and beverages for the hungry inmates. The festival is on Sat. Nov. 15 at 21 Magazine St. from 4-11 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door, and can be purchased at jailbreakcharleston.com.
