The Screwtape Letters, a theatrical adaptation of C.S. Lewis’ novel, is hitting the Sottile Theatre on July 26 at 8 p.m. and July 27 at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. The Charleston pitstop is part of a national tour honoring the legacy of Lewis, who passed away 50 years ago this November.

Lewis’ tale is a satirical work of Christian literature composed of 31 letters from Screwtape, a demon who works in administrative services for the bureaucracy of Hell, to his apprentice, Wormwood. In the letters, the mentor teaches the pupil how to promote sin among the people living on Earth.

The performance stars Brent Harris as Screwtape. Harris has held key roles in many plays, including Scar in The Lion King, Iago in Othello, Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird, and the lead role in Macbeth.

Tickets can be purchased at or by calling 800-514-3849. Prices range from $39 to $59, and students with a valid ID can buy discounted tickets for $25.
