Reformed Whores, a musical comedy duo that came to town twice this year as part of the Charleston Comedy Festival and Piccolo Fringe, have a bun in the oven. And by bun in the oven, we mean album in the works.
Marie Cecile Anderson and Katy Frame, the two members of the New York-based country-throwback band, caught Charleston audiences off guard with their lyrics about internet porn, girl crushes, and drunk dialing set to sunny guitar, ukulele, and accordion. Their debut album, Ladies Don’t Spit (out Oct. 23), features stage favorites including “Douchebags,” “Birth Control,” and “Girls Poop Too.” The album captures some of the duo’s charming live banter, but unfortunately it can’t convey the visual comedy of, say, a grinning chanteuse in a baby-blue church dress shaking a baby-shaped maraca. The recordings include guest performances by pedal steel player Gerald Menke and bassist Jay Foote.
