Just in time for Valentine’s Day, the Flowertown Players present a play about a very unique love triangle. A.R. Gurney’s Sylvia is a romantic comedy about a disgruntled, middle-aged professional named Greg (Sean Lakey) and the tug-of-war between his career-oriented wife, Kate (Shannon Horn), and the “other woman,” Sylvia (Sara Boughter). Kate is busy with her career while Sylvia is around to give Greg all the unconditional, genuine, slobbery, tail-wagging love that he could ask for. That’s right — Sylvia is Greg’s dog. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for Greg’s affections when Greg finds the stray in the park. Sylvia knows that Kate couldn’t possibly understand the connection between a man and his best friend — a best friend who just happens to be his wife’s worst enemy. Even crazier is the fact that Sylvia is portrayed not only as a quick-witted, Homer-quoting dog, but she’s played by a vivacious young woman.
