In an age of over-synthesizing, it’s a beautiful change of pace when true musicians can mesmerize a crowd with nothing but a combination of vocal harmonies, acoustic instruments, and percussion instruments played on various parts of their bodies. The members of the Washington-based group Polka Dot Dot Dot performed that feat Saturday night at Redux in front of an intimate crowd, sitting crossed-legged on the floor of the white-walled gallery. The quiet crowd and the lack of distractions on the walls allowed the talent of the performers — Jordan O’ Jordan, Onyx of Olympia, and Miss Spindleheart — to remain the central focus of the room. Each one sporting an article of clothing with their signature polka dot print, the group accomplished the most important task of any live performance: they seemed to have a blast playing their music. In addition to outstanding vocals, Polka Dot Dot Dot won over my heart after two of the members masterfully blended sounds from a saw into the mix of various instruments. Oicho Kabu and Yukon filled out the night of fun, original music. —Cara Kelly
