This ain’t your grandma’s Christmas production. And it’s definitely not for the kids. This is entertainment for anyone experiencing Christmas carol/mall Santa/sugary-sweet commercial overload. It happens. But this play can help. Santaland Diaries is based on the essay of humorist David Sedaris and his painful experiences working as an elf at Macy’s. It’s directed by Have Not Greg Tavares and stars Matt Bivins, actor and former member of local super-band Jump, Little Children. Bivins returns to Charleston from his new home in Chicago just for the performance. This year, the show has been revamped into a one-man show. Tickets sold out last year at the American Theatre, so don’t wait to get yours for the slightly-smaller Theatre 99. You’ll laugh your holiday depression away. Dec. 18, 8 p.m. Dec. 19-20, 10 p.m. $15, www.etix.com. Theatre 99, 280 Meeting St., (Downtown), (843) 853-6687, www.thehavenots.com.

Also, don't miss the Have Nots Holiday Show Dec. 19-20 at 8 p.m. ($12.50). Because you can never have too much funny!
