I have yet to try all of the pizza joints Charleston has to offer, but so far Mellow Mushroom remains one of my favorites. Everything from the unique assortment of toppings to the yummy salads to the funky atmosphere to the $2 vodka combine to make it one of my favorite places to grab an affordable bite or start a night on the town. Which explains my excitement that they’re opening a new location in East Cooper as early as Dec. 22. Walter Harris, a former lawyer with Motley Rice, decided to take his life in a new direction by opening the restaurant. Here’s the DL from the press release:

“Located on the rapidly growing north side of Mt. Pleasant, on Highway 17, Mellow Mushroom Mt. Pleasant, will feature an outdoor patio, 12 flat screen high-definition TVs and a large menu that offers a delicious assortment of pizzas, salads, calzones and other treats. It will also feature a hip, full-service bar that boasts 20 draft and 80 bottled beers and an extensive wine menu.  For those looking for more than just good food; most nights at Mellow Mushroom will offer entertainment such as live music, trivia, and karaoke.  The restaurant’s unusual lighting effects and artwork, which include a large fiberglass mushroom at the center of the restaurant and a funky fountain in the front, create an energetic, yet laid-back atmosphere, making it the perfect place for everyone from people watching their favorite games to families with young kids to local high school students looking for a night out.”
