Celebrate Election Day with Parties and Free Stuff

Posted by Erica Jackson on Tue, Nov 4, 2008 at 9:51 AM

Tuesday, Nov. 4, there's plenty of stuff going on to help you celebrate your wise decision to vote. Besides bribe-like freebies given out by companies, there are a number of election-watch parties that should last until the bitter end (as long as, God forbid, it's not past 2 a.m.) We hear there are election parties happening at Yo Burrito, Fish, Mellow Mushroom, Tristan (see write-up below), and more bars around town. Our guess is that if you just walk around downtown, most places with TVs will be filled with people gathering to watch the returns. Don't sit alone on your couch. Get out and party with your party!

As for the freebies, businesses are appealing to our free-loader sides with yummy gifts for voters. (Which begs the question: what kind of people vote to get free coffee, and who do they vote for?) Get free coffee at Starbucks, a free patriotic doughnut at Krispy Kreme, free ice cream at Ben & Jerry's, and free dessert for the entire month of November at Tristan. We've also heard you can get a chicken sandwich at Chick Fil A. Basically, you'll be eating for free all day. And you'll have a really bad stomach-ache.

Heard of any more parties and/or freebies? Let us know.

EVENT | Election watch party at Tristan

Join Tristan as they transform into Charleston’s fine dining election headquarters with their first ever Election Watch party. Raise your fists in the air with joy and fury as you watch who takes the presidency. Of course the night wouldn’t be complete without culinary elegance. Chef Aaron Deal is fixing up a haute three-course dinner for the occasion. Indulge in sinful Blue Point Oysters served with a foie gras vinaigrette, apple basil granita, and an olive oil crisp to start. For the main course, a filet mignon with fingerling potatoes, heirloom baby carrots, pearl onions, and a Cabernet jus will be served. Hoping the economy won’t deflate like a popped soufflé? Finish it all off with Deal’s rendition of a soufflé made with toasted hazelnuts, enriched with Frangelico mousseline, and espresso anglaise. All diners donning an “I voted” sticker get a free glass of bubbly. We have a little insider information for those not dining too. Bring in your voter registration card to Tristan and get a complimentary dessert for the whole month of November. —Alison Sher Tue., Nov. 4, 5 p.m.-2 a.m. www.tristandining.com. Tristan, 55 S. Market St., Downtown, (843) 534-2155
