Fun Events... Tonight!

Posted by Erica Jackson on Thu, Sep 25, 2008 at 9:50 AM

OK, we know there is some good TV on tonight (Who's psyched for The Office??). But really, you need to set your Tivo or even go old school and pop in a VHS, because there's too much going on tonight for you to spend the night on the couch. Here are a few of our recommended events. Think you can fit it all in?

EVENT | Drink with the fishes

You’ve been very good. You’re recycling everything you can, shopping at the farmers market, cleaning with organic products, and you’ve even been riding your bike to work. (Because you’ve been reading City Paper’s articles on adopting a greener lifestyle, right?) We think you deserve a reward. Thursday night, kick off the Charleston Green Fair with a super-green cocktail party at one of our favorite venues, the S.C. Aquarium. There will be food from restaurants that follow sustainable food practices including Hank’s Seafood, Huck’s Lowcountry Table, The Library at Vendue, Middleton Place, The Sanctuary’s Ocean Room and Jasmine Porch, Wild Dunes’ Lettered Olive and Sea Island Grill, and Good Food Catering. There will be drinks from Ice Box Professional Bartending Services, SweetWater Brewery, Thomas Creek Brewery, Lee Distributors, Firefly Vodka, Whole Foods, Row Eleven, The Sanctuary at Kiawah, and Charleston Coffee Roasters. Entertainment includes music from Kevin Hackler String Quartet and a presentation from well-known urban developer Vince Graham, founder of the I’On group, as well as Georgia Malki, president of Seven Star Events. Malki is responsible for making the Fair as green as possible. When you’re liquored up, green style, and you start to feel like the fish are eye-ballin’ you, catch a Green Taxi for $7 downtown, or $15 over the bridges. All of this goodness benefits Lowcountry Earth Force and the S.C. Aquarium’s Sustainable Seafood Initiative. Guests must be 21 to attend. Sept. 25, 7-10 p.m. $50, (843) 720-8525, www.charlestongreenfair.com. S.C. Aquarium, 100 Aquarium Wharf.

FASHION | Fall fashion fabulousness

Rachel Gordon blew the crowd away with her diaphanous designs at Charleston Fashion Week’s Emerging Local Designer’s Showcase last March. She’s since stayed busy cranking out new designs, and Thursday marks her first show since the spring, with deeper colors and a few more formal pieces for the holidays. But it’s not just a Rachel Gordon show — 11 other local designers will have their goods on view and for sale at this trunk show. Outfit your entire wardrobe for fall with handbags from Candice Romeo, jewelry from Jane Pope, clothes from Vintage Couture, toiletries from Charleston Chemist, and bathing suits from Marysia Charleston (hey, we’ve still got a few weeks of beach weather left). Other designers include Angela Hall, Mew Designs, Dee Ruel, Theodosia Jewelry, The Rose Knot, Asher Designs, and Cactus Photography. After the show, head to J. Paul’z for the after-party featuring $3 martinis. Sept. 25, 4-9 p.m. (843) 259-8066. 258 Rutledge Ave.
