Our new intern Madelyne just informed me of a new energy-efficient search engine called Blackle. It was created by Heap Media to remind us all to take small steps to save energy — basically, a black screen requires a little less energy than a white screen. Blackle is a Google Custom Seach partner, but is not owned by Google.

I can't decide if this is really stupid or not, as I question how much energy the black screen will actually save, but considering how much people use Google, it might be a valuable daily reminder to live responsibly.
