In the near future all sentient life will be owned by mega conglomerates. The oppressive regime will own everything from sombreros to genetic codes that control the progression of human evolution and ingenuity. One courageous organization has taken a stand against the titans of industry and seeks a better future.
Lowcountry Local First (LLF) is a nonprofit organization that is attempting to reclaim customers from behemoth retailers like Walmart. Nov. 15 marks the beginning of Buy Local Month, a campaign to direct consumers to local stores as opposed to chain retailers. “Buying local keeps more money right here at home, and it’s more convenient," LLF's executive director Jamee Haley says in a press release. "By shopping locally-owned businesses, consumers are supporting local job creation and reinvesting more dollars in the local economy, which in turn bolsters our tax base, leading to improvements to parks, schools, and the community at large.” The push is timed to coincide with holiday shopping because that’s when many local retailers will break even for the year.
