Charleston Animal Society's Dog Days campaign kicks off today

Posted by Kathryn Parton on Wed, Oct 24, 2012 at 9:00 AM

These are the good kind of dog days — the kind that raise funds for homeless animals who need a little more help than others. The Charleston Animal Society Toby's Fund was inspired by a "broken" dog named Toby who came through their doors in desperate need of medical attention. Thanks to the help that CAS gave him, he was able to leave the shelter happy and whole.

But that kind of care doesn't come cheap, explains the Animal Society’s Director of Development, Caroline Eller. “This year we’ve spent $500,000 on the medical treatment of animals alone, and we want to be able to treat every animal that walks through our doors." So they're hosting kick-off parties to spread the word about Toby's Fund, which is gratefully accepting donations that will help fund other animals' specialized medical care.

At each of these kick-off parties, 15 percent of sales will go to the fund. The second party of the campaign is tonight at 'Cesca, and parties will continue to take place throughout the month of November. During each of these events, the CAS will also sell T-shirts for $20, which Eller encourages everyone to buy. “Part of the campaign is that we’re hoping everyone who is out there supporting us will be wearing the T-shirts. We hope we see a flood of them throughout the streets of Charleston.”

If you can’t make it to a kick-off party, you can still get involved in the animal life-saving escapade. During Second Sunday on King Street, some vendors will have a dog in their store available for adoption.

'Cesca will host its kick-off party tonight from 5-8 at the restaurant, at 5 Faber St. Stop by to enjoy a Pink Poodle or Salty Dog cocktail, or order off their prixe fixe menu, which will offer 3 dishes for $30. They'll also offer happy hour specials, and will hold an on-site drawing for a $100 'Cesca gift card. If you can’t make it to this specific shindig, here’s the list of other participating restaurants and vendors:

The Silver Puffin - Nov. 1, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
82 Queen - Nov. 2, 5:00-9:00 p.m.
Scout & Molly’s - Nov. 8, 6:00-9:00 p.m.
Chucktown Tavern - Nov. 9, 7:00-11:00 p.m.
