Harper Poe, the fashion mastermind behind the local company Proud Mary, is showcasing her brand-new Mali imports at Indigo and Cotton Thurs. June 21 from 6-9 p.m. Geometric patterned bags, tie-dyed pillows, and fluorescent scarves are just a few of the items Poe will have for sale from her new collection, which she unveiled in May. “It’s not sold anywhere else in Charleston,” Poe says.
Proud Mary specializes in high-quality, handcrafted global goods from indigenous artisans in developing countries. Poe founded the company in 2008 with the goal to develop sustainable design for positive change, empower artisans and promote economic growth, share varying ideas and cultures, and establish healthy relationships with the artisans. The South American designs are authentic, the colors vibrant and rich.
“I think it’s going to be kind of scattered throughout the whole store,” Poe says of Thursday's event. “Like a pop-up shop, essentially.” Also for sale are jewelry and sandals Poe collected from Guatemala — pieces that complement the design of other items in the line.
