Cavortress reps the South at St. Louis Fashion Week

Meet me in St. Louie

Posted by Erica Jackson on Tue, Aug 31, 2010 at 2:40 PM

Julie Wheat is headed north. Or west. Or wherever the hell St. Louis is.

The Cavortress designer is one of six finalists chosen to compete at St. Louis Fashion Week Sept. 7-11. Event sponsor Alive Magazine selected Wheat as a semi-finalist, then fans ranked her among the final six via online voting. Wheat is the only finalist from the Southern states.

A panel of judges will evaluate the runway presentations and one person will be named the winner of the Project: Design! competition. The grand prize is a website and a fashion spread in Alive Magazine. Two former contestants are currently on Project Runway season 8.

K. Morgan moves up, Bluemercury moves in

Posted by Erica Jackson on Fri, Aug 6, 2010 at 2:18 PM

K. Morgan hosted a moving sale back in June but kept mum about their new location. Well, the secret’s out. They’ve relocated to a larger spot at 93 Society Street. Stop by for tax free weekend — Friday and Saturday you can get 20 percent off and new item.

Bluemercury is moving into K. Morgan’s old space at 255 King St. The national apothecary and spa chain offers high-end products from companies like NARS, Bobbi Brown, and Laura Mercier — perfect for downtown shoppers lamenting the Saks closing. Word has it the store just opened its doors today.

Online menswear store pops up at Cynthia Rowley

Way down in Bonobos

Pop up shops and trunk shows have long been the dominion of ladies in Charleston, but that's about to change. New York-based menswear company Bonobos is making a stop at Cynthia Rowley next week. While the company, established in 2007, mostly operates online, they occasionally branch out into pop-up shop territory.

Bonobos founders Brian Spaly and Andy Dunn were students at Stanford Business School when Brian began altering his own pants, and friends started demanding his services. Now the company is known for its "better-fitting" pants, along with staples like polos, blazers, and accessories. The pants range from $88-$295.

Check out the Bonobos line at Cynthia Rowley on Thurs. Aug. 12 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. There will be sweet tea bourbon cocktails and beer, and the Bluestone Ramblers will provide musical entertainment. If you can't make the launch party, the Bonobos line will be available at the store through Aug. 25. For more info, call (843) 577-8013.
