Stacey Bendet, founder and designer of alice + olivia, is touring the East Coast this summer on a makeover mission. Bendet, along with a team of stylists, will cruise into Charleston in their 1970s Airstream motor home on Sat. June 26 to bring her famous contemporary clothing line to the Holy City.

Bendet began designing clothes when she was on a mission to find the perfect pants. After searching without luck, Bendet decided to make her own pair, earning her the nickname “Staceypants.” Over the past eight years, Bendet has gone from being homeless to being a popular fashion designer passionate about spreading joy.

Alice + olivia is teaming up with Caviar & Bananas to host the cocktail party and trunk show on Saturday, with clothing priced from $250 to $400. Stylists from Stella Nova are donating their time to do guests' hair and make-up. The party is from 5-9 p.m. and while you’re there, check out the vintage motor home parked out front to see how the girls are living.A percentage of the proceeds from the trunk show will be donated to Feed the Need.

DIPT NYC launches summer line

Here comes the ice cream man

Looking to cool off in this scorching heat? Try DIPT NYC clothing — the brand counts ice cream among its biggest inspirations. The streetwear company splits its time between Charleston and the Lower East Side of New York City, with both cities influencing its products.

DIPT NYC creator The Ice Cream Man finds inspiration everywhere he looks. “I am not a savant by any means, but the inspirations and designs are all around us … I may see something which inspires me and it may conceive a full concept, but many times it is a mix of things from here or there that culminate into a specific thought, design, or feeling,” he says.

On June 21, the company released its Summer X Collection, which includes three graphic T-shirts with vibrantly colored logos created from hand drawn designs. They're $24 a pop and are available in both men’s and women’s sizes. The company also offers a $20 Haiti Relief Effort T-shirt, with 50 percent of the proceeds donated to the relief effort of your choice.

Future plans for the brand include placement in additional boutiques, as well as collaborations with several well-known brands across the country.

Posted by Kelly Smith on Mon, Jun 21, 2010 at 4:00 PM

It's a busy week for fashion in Charleston, with sales and stylish events for local shoppers.

From Monday through Wednesday, receive 20 percent off your purchase at Bashful Boutique in Avondale. All you have to do is mention this article.

On Tuesday from 6:30-10:30 p.m., Eye Level Art hosts a Fashion and Art Party featuring Sucker Jeans, Stella and Dot Jewelry, and Drue Dun artwork. The Fire Apes will perform, and there will be champagne.

On Thursday from 4-8 p.m., Cose Bella hosts a vintage trunk show and photo exhibit. You’ll find pieces from vintage broker Lori Wyatt and photography by Diana Deaver. Shoppers will receive 20 percent off storewide, as well as champagne and sweets from Yes U May Cookies. Also on Thursday, from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Love Me Again hosts a trunk show just for men with vintage broker Chris Maloney. The sale includes 15 percent off all purchases (not including accessories), 20 percent off all combination purchases, and 25 percent off all vintage Hawaiian shirts.

On Friday from 4-7 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m-1 p.m., Charleston Naturally will hold a warehouse sale with natural and organic products for the home, garden, kids, and pets. The sale will include both new arrivals and discounts on summer and discontinued products.

On Saturday from 5-9 p.m., the alice + olivia tour brings summer and fall fashions to Caviar & Bananas with a trunk show and cocktail party. Stella Nova stylists will do guests’ hair and makeup while a + o stylists will help guests choose from the collection. A percentage of the proceeds will go to Feed the Need.

On Saturday (10 a.m.-6 p.m.) and Sunday (12-6 p.m.), Sullivan’s Island’s Escapada will have a sample sale. Pieces from the women’s resort wear collection will be priced from $5-$30. Profits go to the Surfrider Foundation.

Finally, K. Morgan’s moving sale will continue through June 26 as the store gets ready for relocation. (We're still waiting on word for where exactly that will be, though we hear it is downtown.) During the sale, all new arrivals are 20-25 percent off, and spring fashions are 30-75 percent off.

Eleanor Brockington and Haley Harper were right on trend in geometric prints. Harper wears a colorful Trina Turk dress and Kate Spade wedges. Tip: nude wedges and heels subtly lengthen legs.
