Style Swap is coming, and it needs your most stylish cast-offs

Advance tickets going for just $10

Style Swap returns to Charleston Sept. 10, and we hear tickets are selling fast.

Hosted by Wilmington-based “style girl” Jess James, the event made its local debut back in May at the Music Farm. A small group of ladies walked in with their stylish cast-offs and walked off with something new-to-them.

While the first event was a hit with guests, the upcoming Swap has definitely made some major improvements. It’s going to be held at Eye Level Art’s 103 gallery, with catering from Halls Chophouse, and an after-party at Halls as well. There’s complimentary wine from Social, a Stella Nova beauty station with massages and mini makeovers, and gift bags with goodies from Trish McEvoy, Chanel, and Bobbi Brown. And while the first event only featured a few designers, this Swap boasts a huge list of participating retailers and designers, like II Brunettes, Copper Penny, Biton, Love Me Again, Estella Vitae, and many more.

Tickets are $10 in advance, $20 at the door. You’ll need to bring one gently-worn item on a hanger, and one accessory — and please, don’t bring worn-out crap that no one wants. It’s up to you to keep the selection fresh!

As with the previous event, guests will be able to bid on their favorite items, and they’re sure to walk away with at least one piece they wanted (depending on the popularity of items bid on).

Be smart and order your tickets in advance, which will give you food, wine, and potentially some fab new designer/vintage clothes for $10. You can't beat that.

Shine hosts a Brit-flavored fashion show

Gwynn's does denim

Ever the hub for the fashion forward, Shine is hosting a fashion show Thursday night featuring styles from British company MiH (Made in Heaven) Jeans. Check out the range of sleek denim available at Gwynn's, and enjoy "classic British music" from DJ Arthur Brouthers. There will be drink specials, but the show itself is free, and the first 100 guests will receive a gift certificate to Gwynn's — that's enough incentive for me to be unfashionably early. RSVP here. The event lasts from 7-9 p.m.

Pearl hosts summer sidewalk sale

Library, Marysia, Thera M., and more offering big discounts

Posted by Liz Kulze on Tue, Aug 18, 2009 at 3:00 PM

Ironically the end of summer is always the best time to buy summer clothes, although traveling from store to store and sale rack to sale rack can become quite strenuous.

So this year Pearl, a Shem Creek designer boutique, has teamed up with other local stores and designers to bring all of your favorite sale racks to one place. The “Summer Sidewalk Sale” will feature lingerie from Chantilly, vintage finds from Library, swimwear from Marysia Swim, and designer clothes and shoes from Thera M. and Pearl.

The sale runs Aug. 21-22 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m., and Aug. 23 from 1-5 p.m., so hurry over before someone snags that Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti cocktail dress that costs less than the dinner you’ll wear it to.

Putumayo/The Outlet Company clearing out for fall

Everything is $10

Posted by Preston Bernstein on Mon, Aug 17, 2009 at 7:13 PM

The Outlet Company, formerly known as Putumayo, is currently holding a serious sale. Every piece of clothing related to the store’s previous incarnation is on sale for only $10. That’s right, everything: skirts, tops, dresses, jackets, and wraps. Not only is their entire showroom on sale, but there are also 20 tables in the back room filled with box after box of clothing. The purpose of the sale is to get rid of the old merchandise so there’s room for the new fall line, which will be displayed immediately after the sale ends. Stop by 433 King St. to check it out.
