Re: “Closed for Business

Overpriced drinks, forgettable food, not a diverse liquor bar.

Re: “Midtown Bar & Grill

I arrived at Midtown for dinner last week around 8:15, only to hear the doorman told me it was "one in, one out." We waited for around 10 minutes, got in, and it was jam-packed with college kids all drinking ad nauseum. I had the fried chicken wrap and waited 25-30 minutes to get served. The food gets to the table and... it's crap. Cold and slimy. If you're looking for a bar that you can order shitty food in while you get trashed, Midtown is the place for you. Otherwise, save your money.

Re: “The Break Room

What's twisted about this place is that they feel like a sports bar, situated in what is essentially a strip mall, can charge $18 for crab cakes..... REALLY?

Re: “Midtown Bar & Grill

Yet another failed attempt at the restaurant/bar hybrid. The food is piss poor, place smells like spilled liquor, bad lighting, and loud as a steam engine. AVOID!

Re: “Sunfire Grill & Bistro

I have a feeling that the food here is prepared by a large distributor, frozen, and then heated to order.

Re: “Poe's Tavern

All of my friends highly recommended Poe's as the best burger in town. We went there on a weekday afternoon to try it out. I ordered a burger medium-well and my girlfriend ordered hers medium rare... two totally different burgers. When I got mine, I cut it in half and realized it was rare. My girlfriends was well done. I sent my undercooked, cut in half burger, back nd when it was returned it was the SAME burger! They re-cooked my cut-in-half burger along with the cheese, onion straws and BBQ sauce that was already on it - AND it was still undercooked (they couldn't cook it on both sides because of the garnishes!) When I called the server over to tell her it was STILL undercooked she said "Well, what do you want it to look like??" Needless to say, this was my first and last visit to Poe's!!

Re: “Wild Wing - Oakland Market

One of the worst dining experiences. The server was ridiculously overattentive. She came by almost 20 times in a 90 minute period, even after we had asked for the check (which we didn't receive) so we could enjoy our bucket of beer in peace. Instead of letting us know the bar would be closing early, or that last call was coming up -- even though we saw her every 3-5 minutes, she told us the bar was closed and we needed to leave. The bar didn't close early -- she only asked us to leave because she was already done cleaning her section/doing her side work, and wanted us to go home so she could go home. We would have happily moved to the bar.

Re: “Music Farm

This place sucks; terrible sound, bad bartenders, and it's usually overcrowded.

Re: “California Dreaming

The food at this restaurant is not up to par. The spinach dip and chips were a combination of burnt chips with a tasteless paste on top of it. The marinated chicken was dry although there was a bit of flavor. The portions of many of the entrees are small and the presentation needs to be improved. The only saving grace is the location right off the water. Unfortunately that is not enough.

Re: “Daniel Island Grille

Terrible service!! I came in for lunch, the waitress barely noticed me even though it was not busy. She was to busy talking to other workers. When my order came she forgot my condiments so I got them myself from the bar along with my drink. Tried it again at night, very cramped and lots of elderly. Not my place to hang out!

Re: “Smoky Oak Taproom

Had a call in order to try the BBQ. I worked in the restaurant business for 18 years so I know my stuff. Said it would be 25 minutes. Left home and got there at the 25 minute time I was given. I stood there another 20 minutes after I told one of the bartenders I was there for a call in. No one said hello, get out of the way, nothing. Finally someone came, brought my food. The total was $7.53 and I handed her a $10, Which she replied do you really need change? 30% tip for cold food, heck no, where is my change. Not impressed with the food, can get the same anywhere. No front of the house manager to be seen anywhere. Bartenders should be taking the togo orders not the waitstaff. Improvements must be made or the place will not survive till June.

Re: “Daniel Island Grille

Food wasn't that great and the service was even worse. Grizzly bartender was a chump that needed to be decked. I know it is DI but their drinks are pretty damn expensive. The only thing that I like about the place is that it is dog friendly.

Re: “Purple Tree Lounge

Went Saturday for my 21st birthday and had friends with me that were 20. They advertise that they let in 18 and up, but they wouldn't let in boys that were 20. They only do that on Thursday nights. Would have been nice to find this information out before hand. Tried to call several times during the week to get some information, but no one ever answered. Will not go back here. I took my $300 dollars elsewhere. Do they want 18 year old girls going into this club by themselves to get hit on by old men? I think so. Bouncers were rude. Will be sure to tell all of my friends what a horrible experience I had.

Re: “Fiddler's Green Pub

I was very offended by the staff. Food was below average. A little better than McDonalds.

Re: “Halls Chophouse

Terrible. Bill was a little too intrusive and overwhelming as we entered Halls. We went for the Sunday night burger special, which no longer exists, even though we called to confirm with the hostess the day before. Moes Crosstown burgers beat Hall's any day. The bartender was more than willing to offer the nightly specials to her friends next to us, but never once were the specials offered to us. How would Bill feel about that?

Re: “Neil Jordan's Steakhouse

As a former food and beverage worker, I was not impressed with Neil Jordan's. There is a bit of a disconnect as to what this restaurant is trying to achieve. First, signs flaunt "flip-flop friendly" and "$2 Yuengling", yet steaks flaunt USDA Prime and a $7 side baked potato. Figure out your niche and go with it. Either you are a casual bar-restaurant, or you are fine dining. If you are going the casual route, drop the high prices for decent enough food and mediocre service. If you are looking to be fine dining, get rid of the room full of televisions and get your servers trained.

I will say that the food was cooked properly, but that it was nothing out of the ordinary. Sides are basic, steaks are hard to mess up, and only the specials show-cased any of the talent the kitchen might have. Step up the creativity in this tough market!

In regards to the front of house, I've seen a manager/owner only one of the times we dined in. Other than that, when I came on the weekend, the servers appeared frazzled and the owner was drinking at the bar?! Table maintanence was lacking and our server had little to none wine knowledge. This will not get you by in today's time, and my wife and I will not be back for another round.

Re: “RB's Seafood

Please don't waste your time at this over priced tourist trap. The only thing, and I mean the only thing this restaurant has going for it is its location. Coast or Hanks downtown offers WAY better seafood at a comparable price. Twisted Fish (Breakroom) for seafood n tapas or Poes for tuna tacos is a good choice also. Pearlz is a fantastic place to go for oysters and other fare too. I would avoid RB's at all costs. It has terrible food, ownership, parking, and prices. It rivals Noisy Oyster as the worst seafood and atmosphere in Charleston/Mt P. It received a star because at least it keeps a few people employed...
Nuff said!
