Re: “The Agenda: Senate passes body camera bill; Lawmaker's wife to be appointed judge; Fuel pipeline proposed across S.C.

"democratic exceptionalism lecture"

Your need for a dictionary doesn't make it a 'lecture.'

Re: “How to give $1 million to a mayoral candidate

Why would anyone (who doesn't have a corrupted agenda) want to give a politician any money at all? It's a better question.

Re: “The cash being raised in the mayor's race is insane

What is meaningless and stupid is to complain about a process that you do not take part in, as mat is doing. Even more meaningless and stupid is to give credence to someone who complains from the sideline as if their opinion has any merit, again, because they do not participate in the process, as you are doing.

More money in politics only matters when the side getting it is not the side you are on. And, since mat's views are so twisted and extreme he can't pick a side he destined to be pissed off that there is money at all in the race. None of the liberal hypocrites were bitching and moaning about Obama raising (and spending) ~$250m more than Romney (source Opensecrets) or that BHO raised more in large contributions than Romney did total. To hear the mainstream media spin it Romney had way more and spent way more than BHO because he was the straw man du jour, a successful white male.

Re: “Halls Chophouse owner buys Maverick Southern Kitchens restaurants

As a former seven-year employee of Maverick Southern Kitchens, and the developer of the Maverick Collection program, I'm sorry to see that the Hall Group will not continue this incredible loyalty and rewards program. It has been MSK's primary method of promoting the restaurants and enhancing loyal visitors' participation in the growth and development of the company.

The fixation on Mr Elliott's pet comment from this newspaper has gotten insulting. He is a wonderful, charitable businessman who has has been a pillar of the Charleston hospitality industry for many years. Show some respect, City Paper.

So they can beat the hell out of somebody, but as long as that person is not shot the video won't be released?

Re: “Donations from duplicate addresses pour into mayoral race

Hey cool, loosely regulated and legal bribery.

You won't be able to swing a dead cat around here without hitting some unnecessary development project aimed at jacking real estate prices into the fucking stratosphere and giving us a housing crisis worthy of Seattle.

Re: “The cash being raised in the mayor's race is insane

Nofaith that is a meaningless and stupid response, even for you. The fact that Mat does or does not vote changes the narrative not at all... in fact he didn't delve into political views that would normally separate you from him by whatever the limits of the scale in play are. If you mean that "more money in politics doesn't matter" then say so and resist the temptation to shoot the messenger.

The comparative spending among similarly-sized cities in similar situations is actually pretty surprising, if you ask me. Some people with money to spare have their eyes set on some down-the-road favors if you ask me. Woo hoo! Democracy inaction.

Re: “Stegelin: Second Amendment comes first

Yes, I said that. Thanks for repeating.

However, the data does clearly disprove "more guns = more violence" since we have a lot more of the former in homes and on the streets now and a lot less of the former.

Re: “Halls Chophouse owner buys Maverick Southern Kitchens restaurants

Well thats the end of SNOB and the others for me. The thought of being greeted by the head smarmster Billy Hall when entering any restaurant just does not appeal to many of us. I like to slide in under the radar quietly when dining and not have the whole room know I'm there. I have actually performed the talk to the hand maneuver to hold Billy off in the past. Plus the thought of mail order Allen Bros food just does not do it for me. I don't care how you make it, its still mail order....get a good local butcher for christ sakes, we have some great ones here. Good luck to all y'all BOH friends at all the Maverick Restaurants, I'll be thinking of you.

Re: “The cash being raised in the mayor's race is insane

You have said in the past that you do not vote and I am making a reasonably educated guess that you do not financially support any politician, even the whackos you would lean towards. Donating to a candidate doesn't matter but if you don't vote you really have no valid reason to complain about the election process.

Re: “Black Like Me puts African-American artists in the spotlight

This show is an example of how ready our community is for relevance combined with artistry. The Charleston area IS growing up and simply spreading the word of these efforts, supporting them with our presence and creating an urgency for acceptance of youthful interpretations will make the needed difference in all our lives.
