Our meal was so horrible that I cannot even rate it with 1 star. Meal took 40 minutes to arrive at the table, food was ice cold. Burger arrived 10 minutes later - cooked well done vs med rare as ordered. The lettuce in the grilled tuna salad was rancid and rotting. Manager comped entree portion of the meal - but worse was the attitude - she really did not care. I'm local and posting on every blog I can find.
Royal IS an amazing store with old-school service, they're awesome. But for all you people who regularly shop at Lowes or Home Depot, next time you need something, check out your local hardware store. There's usually one within a few miles, they're privately owned, service oriented(they actually know what they're talking about) and their prices are the same or better than the big boxes. I promise you'll be blown away and will become a regular customer.
Not the greatest place to go if you are into actually listening to music. The highs (treble) bounce all over the cavernous box, and I'm pretty sure the MO is to crank up the volume to an ear splitting level because the monkeys at the bar are yelling drink orders and clanking beer bottles. I've seen artists ask the crowd to quiet down (e.g. JJ Grey, Amos Lee), and it just didn't happen. I also noticed that they haven't come back. The vibe in there is "college party", with the music appreciators crammed in the snake pit in front of the stage.
Overall, the layout isn't conducive to having a place to post up, have space, and enjoy the music...if you creep to the back for space you're forced to observe the party-goers and their noise. Best place in town for actual "dialed in" music levels is the Pour House (except the Music Halls of course, but you're sitting down then)...the PH shows don't start until 11, so you better be a night owl.
Ever heard about Civil Court? Take him there for all the actual damages he has caused, and have the judge talk to him. You'll take him away from his job for a day, and that will cost him. Have any records prepared, in detail. so you can present them to the judge. These places are well known for their dishonest tactics.
The owner is a total crook. I've posted my experience every where today: I've had to file two BB complaints with Mr. Mulherin's Maaco regarding warranty work done to my vehicle earlier this year. One little mistake turned into six days of wasted PTO, over two hundred dollars worth of rentals on my dime, and my car still hasn't been fixed. This is the third visit and John Mulherin, the owner, just threatened to call the cops on me when I requested a proper loaner car for me and my two year old son. He offered a shop car that smelled like an ashtray, looked unsafe, dirty, worn, the front driver side door didn't even open... and asked that I drive that for three days til my car was ready. This is after he refused to pay $27 a day for a rental that would have been safe and clean to drive for me and my son. I am beyond hurt and aggravated that I cannot be shown proper respect as a paying customer and no one should either. His business practices are abhorrent, I'd take my business elsewhere. Oh yeah, he gave me a rock off his desk that said "Get Over It" and told me I should take the hint. Will do.
This is my new favorite restaurant in the city. The food was amazing - unique, extremely well thought out and done, and an overall gastronomic delight. To top it off, the staff was knowledgeable, friendly and personable bringing together the total presentation in a way you just don't find very often. I was with a group from various locations across the country. There were numerous comments that this meal ranked at or near the very top of all meals they'd ever had - both here and abroad I couldn't have been prouder of this local gem. Can't wait to go back.
So funny, I seemed to have the same problem at the one in Summerville. Had to reschedule due to the drawing not being completed, and after 2 weeks, half a grand for a thigh piece smaller than my hand. No wonder it seems like on one is ever there to get a tattoo
Had the club sandwich after a long drive from Raleigh. Friendly employees and the nicest patrons I've met in years..Solid place to revisit with family and friends.Love that it's smoke-free!!
nice but way overpriced
Warning: please do not go to this place. I have been here three times and each time there has been some kind of drama surrounding the bar area. I have never been in any kind of altercation at a bar and unfortunately the general manager at the bar was completely rude and classless.. Please do not waste your time and energy coming to this place, Downtown Summerville has a lot more to offer than the terrible service given here. Overall, very displeased and appalled by the low level of professionalism and service at this place.
Never ate there and probably never will but you ignorant people who write reviews really need to edit before hitting "send'. Your spelling and grammar is atrocious. I hope that if you can afford a meal out that you all have at least a 2nd grade education......
Even with 40% off, their prices are high. I do buy very specialty items from them when cooking special meals, but everyday purchases generally come from HT or Publix. I'll definitely go to the downtown store, as it is much closer to Summerville and does not have the traffic.
I was on my way home from the beach with a van load of kids, age 4 to 14, when suddenly I knew we were in trouble. My van started to shake and lost acceleration. It was extremely HOT outside, and the idea of being stranded on the highway with all of these kids was terrifying to me. The staff at JK were 100% helpful, honest, and skillful in their handling of the situation. After less than 2 hours, I was back on the road. Rather than take advantage of the situation, and gouge prices, knowing that I was desperate, they took care of everything at a more than fair price. These people are excellent at what they do, and ethical in their management and prices.
Philly born and raised. This place takes a backseat to no one. I have never had a better cheesesteak. Period.
To help with the throttling of "Matt Gallo", he was created on May 18th and managed to have lunch at both locations on that same day (look it up, it's hilarious).
I've been there twice, and I liked the selection and the bar service was fine. It's on James Island (I've lived here for seventeen years), and I applaud a place when it takes a real crack at it. I can't speak to anything but the list and the aforementioned bar service, but if there's Ballast Point on tap, and Green Flash, Stone, two Terrapins and two Founders in bottle form--and these are all IPAs.
But these are also grocery store beers, and I have a hard time paying six bucks for a ubiquitous Goose Island or a Sweetwater IPA, four times what I pay at the Teeter. I'm certainly not paying for the sweet vistas of asphalt and the muted silhouettes of an electrical substation and a Money Man Pawn, and if I'm reading some of these reviews right, and a possible response to this review might be "if you don't like it, stay home", be careful..I have a screened-in porch, a 60" TV, and a $14 growler of Jade. More later when I try the food.
P.S. "lovesdogs6957" was created on May 17th and has one review to date...
To continue with the "sock puppet" thrashing, "Matt Gallo" was created on May 18th and had lunch at both locations at once (look it up, it's hilarious). I've stopped in twice, and they do have a good selection. Given that it's James Island (and I've lived here for seventeen years), I applaud giving it a real shot. I can't speak to anything but the beer list and service at the bar (which was just fine), but I'm happy with a list with Ballast Point on tap and Green Flash, Stone, and two Founders in bottle form. It's expensive, though--I have a hard time paying six bucks for a ubiquitous Goose Island or a Sweetwater IPA when I pay a quarter of that at the grocery store. I'm not paying for the sweet vistas of asphalt and the silhouette of an electrical substation and Money Man Pawn. If any of the previous posts are true and the upper echelons of management are saying, "if you don't like it, just stay home"..be careful, because I have a screened-in porch, a 60" TV, and a growler of Jade for $14. More later when I try the food.
Philly's is amazing! I've never had a problem anytime I've gone and the food is super delicious! The wait staff are always friendly and the wait time can be long depending on when you go, but it's so worth it!
The most amusing sock puppet post was the one that said probably the best beer selection in the city. They might not even have the best selection in their own part of town, let alone the many, MANY other places around Charleston with a better selection (Edmund's Oast, Craft Conundrum, Closed For Business, Gene's, The Barrel, etc).
