There was only maybe 9 shrimp on my sandwich and when asked for a refill on tea and the waitress brought back a 1/2 glass of water.
Wings is a great bar and on every tuesday they have this live singer named Chris Sullivan who is amazing. He has a soulful sound that I can only relate as Cash meets Springsteen, but he is an awesome act to say the least.
I Wish I had more than two thumbs to put up. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax...maybe you should try somewhere else. However, if you're looking for the north area's best kept secret, look no further. The entire bar staff is outstanding! Josh, Marcus, Mandy, Starr, and April, along with the rest of the staff, owners, and bands that play there are what gives this little bar such amazing character. Black chalkboard walls that constantly change, a selection of music that rivals most radio stations, and food that is out of this world...what more could you ask for? Now, if you're not coherent enough to remember to pay your tab and get your card back at the end of the night...you might just have to accept the consequences the following day. Wings is hands-down the best local bar with true attitude!!
I live in Columbia, but visit my sons in Charleston frequently. Being of Irish descent, I always make a bee-line for Madra Rua. Their service and food are always excellent. Their food and drink are priced right.
I think Rendezvous is a nice place, but if I had to go eat with 60 people, I would have bailed out. Business Travel Fun has posted a review and gave the Vous a Best of BTF Award. You can check it out at

I went to this place the first week of December and thought it was fine. It definitely is more of a bar that serves seafood pub-grub. They had oyster selections from all over the gulf and east coast. I like cold water oysters way better than carolina or gulf oysters and they were good. The seafood gumbo had great flavor, but for me it was too chunky. I would have liked more of a broth with lots of chunks, this was all chunks. Wings were good, beer ice cold. It was noisy but not overly so. The waitress said they had a noise problem when they first opened but showed me the acoustic stuff they installed in the ceiling. So overall I though it was not a restaurant but a pretty good bar, with good oysters, cold beer, and ok food other than that.
What a joke this place is! Call it an oyster house, pay $10 for a "bucket" and get a small bucket inside of a regular bucket. This is oyster season! If you are an oyster house, you better offer something special, different, less expensive, in larger portions or something other than your competition that is right down the road with beautiful views of Shem Creek.
The service was terrible! One server brought us to our table, continued to ignore us for another 10 minutes while waiting on a talbe right next to us! When our actual server finally came to the table she didn't even know what the specials of the day were. While waiting for our drinks, we watched while yet another server circled the room, waiting on tables and delivering food all while chewing on a piece of gum like a cow would chew its cud (mouth open and all). How disgusting!
We went for oysters but only ordered one beer and left. For all of the hype and excitement of an actual oyster house, this restaurant falls well below par.
Well I work there And I do belive that we do all we can to make everyone happy. With a party of 60 you should have been smart enough to let someone know it would have been all seperate bills.
yeah i work there and all i gotta say is dude give us a break we just opened and are still working a few bugs out be a little open minded and a little more patient thank you
Fred, i bet your group of 60 was a huge pain in the arse and probably didn't tip well.
Fred, Just FYI-Typically when you have 6 or more in a party, most restaurants do not have separate checks, and they add a gratuity. This is a standard practice. With 60 people and no reservations, I doubt that you can expect a great experience anywhere, except a buffet. When you say NEVER AGAIN. I'm sure the restaurant is grateful for that as well.
A nightmare! On Sun. we had lunch after church. There were (60 in our party. They couldnt fit us in one booth and gave us one bill to include $ 20 gratuity. When I objected they split bill, one per table, again I nade them give us each a bill. We were never told we couldn,t have seperate bills. They tried to add $20 gratuity to each bill. The manager, scurrying around with other problems never did get back to us...NEVER AGAIN ...Fred
The hubby & I love the shrimp quesadillas at abe's. Big fat shrimp stuffed into 4 quesadillas the size of pizza slices -- they were excellent.
We also really like the seared tuna tacos -- with the tasty sauce they put on 'em with the pasta side.
And the chopped tomato & onion salsa, guacamole, sour cream and lettuce leaves were all fresh & clean -- which counts for a lot in a place that serves raw.
The only thing that could improve is the coffee and that's small stuff.
In responce to Stu, i am not one of the investors. i am an employee of a competeing restaurant accross the street.
From the comments going up ithink that we do not have much to worry about, unless these people get there thing together.
Not happy with paying roughly $70 for two after suggesting the food was not too good .. All I got was shrug of the shoulders from our waitress. She was too busy figuring out her job and what to do besides smiling. Martin Stuart posted above is one of the investors. He should have hired better people before opening up. Agree with other folks about heavy salt, cold soggy fries, burned stuff that was cold. Bad man. We won't go back for food. It's just a bar.
Brew was ice cold .. food was better than nasty and less than tasty -- hot was cold and cold was okay .. nice crowd, 'though they are not a soft spoken bunch .. surely they can do better .. let's give em a chance !
My experience at Abe's Oyster House was they need to make changes in the kitchen. We spent $100 and could not finish half of what was brought. Hot food was cold + flavors were odd, service spotty though perky. Drinks okay + panel screens offered visible viewing. Volume of noise was over the top. Could not make out what my gal was saying even though I sat next to her. We'll stop in once more to see if they got the wrinkles ironed out.
There is something really wrong with posting a review on a buisiness that is less than 10 days old. It takes time to shake out some of the problams and it also takes someone possibly risking their life's savings.
I would urge people to give them a chance to get going before judging them.
Horrible food -- everything way over salted , sliders were burnt along with cheese, fish came to table lukewarm verging on cold, fries were soggy lukewarm .. Only thing ordered that was reasonable was a simple salad - - and that was quite unremarkably plain & over-priced.
Noise was ear splitting because the place has zero ceiling acoustical tiling, no floor coverings nor window trim ..
Place was filled with overweight shrieking girls who either love their drinks .. or .. are being .. um .. constantly tickled ..
Yeah, the beer was cold, but I'd rather be across the street at Wild Wing. Better looking ladies, food is good 'n hot, prices reasonable, enough sports on the TVs, plus the drinks are cold and nooooo ear splitting noise.
Re: “Kingston's Sports Bar & Pizza”
Great clientele, customer service and food. Definately a place to go for a night out!
