Terrible service, terrible food, horribly LOUD club music in the middle of the day and terrible TV coverage. (They "offer" MLB package but only show 1 or 2 games because they have 1 or 2 receivers and lots of splitters.) Appears the only way to get good service is to be buddy-buddy with the owner who is usually behind the bar making drinks for himself and his friends (not helping out with any of the other drink orders).
My experience last night at Hatchell's was horrible. My fiance were going to the movies last night and wanted to eat somewhere close to the theatre. Even though we had been to Hatchell's before and hadn't been super impressed, we decided to give it another try. When we got there, we told our waiter that we were trying to make a 7:40 movie (this was around 6:50), and he said it shouldn't be a problem. However, he made no attempt to speed up our service at all throughout the meal. When asking about the beer menu, we found out that most of the beers were no longer available, and the prices listed on the menu were not accurate. Once ordered, it took about 10 minutes just to get our beers. I could understand if the place was packed, but we were the only ones sitting outside, and there were about 4 seated tables inside. We then ordered the grilled chicken sliders and the sirloin quesadilla with no mushrooms. The sliders came out in about 15 minutes and were decent. The bread was chewier than it should have been, but, overall, they were edible. Then the waiter came out about 10 minutes later to inform us that the quesadilla somehow didn't make it into the computer. Ok, things happen. Again, my fiance asked for it to not have mushrooms. When it came out, it was full of mushrooms, and the "sirloin" looked more like a cross between roast beef and turky lunch meat. I wouldn't even touch it. My fiance said something to the waiter about it having mushrooms, but he made no attempt to right the wrong. Around 7:30, I went over to the theatre by myself and left my fiance to pay the bill. He ended up having to go to the bar to pay it, because the waiter never came back to pick it up. Overall, the food was sub-par and the service was abysmal. With so many delicious places to eat in this area, I'm surprised this one stays in business.
5 oz. burgers? no wonder every burger has a shit ton of toppings... pretty slack that a burger joint relies on music to get people in the door and up their sales. maybe your FOOD should be the selling point. just a thought...
I've had the chance to frequent both new additions to downtown Charleston, Big Gun and Hom.. or I'm sorry, "HoM". Whatever. Big Gun = creative burgers/beers and wonderful service. Hom = equals sub-par food and horrible service/management. I'll walk the extra few blocks to give my business to Big Gun over Hom on the regular. Thanks.
Watch your card...witness the vanishing waiter!....We waited with our empty plates and glasses for over 45 minutes. Finally we walked up to the bar where four employees gathered to talk instead of noticing we no longer had a waiter. I asked them where our waiter was...their response "ugh I dunno I just got here"....I left a crappy tip...I should not have left one at all. Three days later they put a larger tip on my credit card!....tis a shame the food was good..perhaps one day they will find people who want to work.
I hate to see this place close down so soon after opening but it is TERRIBLE. The ping pong tables are a cool addition to upper King, but they don't come anywhere close to making up for the bar's shortcomings. Absolutely horrible, do not come here.
i would give it zero stars if i could...their bbq is bad at best, and the service is even worse. they are not only rude, but when they mess up your order (in the drive thru), they do absolutely nothing to fix it and don't even apologize. I went through the drive through and placed my order directly with the girl at the window, and she proceeded to get it COMPLETELY wrong. Then when we called up there to tell them we got the wrong thing they said, we're about to close, next time you come back just tell them what happened and it will be on the house...then when we went back, it was far from "on the house" they actually raised their prices and now charge tax on their menu, when before it was all included (but of course they neglect to inform you that they now charge sales tax)....
as a JI resident and frequent diner at local restaurants around the area, i will never go back there, esp when i can get better service and food at multiple bbq places on the island (melvin's, smokey oak)
By far one of the worst burger places in Charleston. The staff is AWFUL. The food is not worth the cost. If I wanted to spend $10 on a burger I would much rather go to Husk, at least there I know they are using fresh meat that isn't frozen at some point. You would think that the owners being college graduates and all would realize that this is a food and beverage town, and if they want to have expensive food it really needs to be of higher quality. They have a lot of competition with big gunz and baby bugers, and the prices there are much more reasonable. The only thing they bring to the table is Ping Pong so I can only assume this with be a hipster hangout. The only problem with that is they for sure wont be able to afford the food or the drinks. I give this dump about 8 months, that is unless they hire a real chef. Regardless, the food was bland and very unexciting. The bread was mushy, and my med-rare burger was horribly over cooked. They really need to step it up if they want to make it. Good luck boys
Ate there for the first time after hearing they were in the "Top 10" places in the USA to eat a pancake. I don't think they make my "Top 100."
1. The pancakes seemed slightly overcooked, and not an overwhelming portion - no sides?
2. The butter provided is little, individually wrapped pats of butter. What a pain to unwrap butter pats when you are trying to eat pancakes.
3. The syrup arrived well after the pancakes. Even Waffle House brings syrup when you place your order, not as an afterthought or only on request.
On the upside, the wait staff was neat, attentive, and did bring the syrup when asked.
As others have stated, parking is, well, very hard to come by.
The restaurant needs major overhaul with cleaning and decor. The floors are mud brown with splattered paint. The walls need the holes fixed, wiped down and repainted. The tables were dirty and covered with chicken vinyl table clothes. The servers looked like they just had gotten out of bed. The lady who took our order looked like she had been rolling around in hay. Seriously! No one was friendly or even cracked a smile. My food was not edible! I had eggs that tasted like hospital food, hashbrowns that were soggy and my bagel, which was the frazzle, had burnt onions on the bottom. It was all terrible!!
The whole place needs to be shut down, restaffed with nice people, cleaned from top to bottom and repainted!
We used to have a Bagel Nation in Summerville, many years ago, and it was wonderful! So my husband and I were excited to see there was one in Mount
Pleasant and made the effort to go there during our IOP stay. We regret it and won't be back!!
Salt, salt and more salt. And the few non-salty items were amazingly bland. Disappointing, since we loved the interior and had a great server.
I agree. This place blows now. Plenty of other locals spots around, don't waste your money.
I agree with Gatermama....service is VERY poor....AWFUL service!
Not Swanky......Ridiculous let me just say again. RIDICULOUS!!
This place is absolutely horrible. This is a definite do not go. I asked for a rum an coke and the bartender actually asked me "what's in it?". The drinks are overpriced as others have mentioned and the food is even worst. I ate the shrimp and was practically out of commission. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. The 'relatively' new owners have run this place into the ground.
This might be one of the bigger jokes in the Charleston area. Granted, the place has been updated nicely - and the dj is great - BUT, we arent in Vegas fellas. The rude doorman/bouncers with their ear pieces and tough guy attitudes is laughable. Pricey drinks and bartenders who make you feel lucky to get served doesn't last long here. Best was a fight in the parking lot at 2 AM. Mount Pleasant people! Take it to N Chuck!
We ate there once a few months back. Ordered the "jerk chicken". I'm a restaurant owner/manager and I hate it when customers get a slightly underdone piece of chicken and refer to it as "raw". I can find no other term to describe this chicken we received at Coconut Joe's other than RAW. It was literally cooked about 1/8" on either side. Like on the grill for 30-45 seconds, flip, 30-45 seconds on the other side. The entire center (75% of the chicken breast) was jelly raw.
The reaction of the restaurant was like it didn't matter a whole lot.
The manager offered us dessert.
When you walk into a restaurant and the smell of bleach blasts you in the face...there may be a problem.
I have never writen a review on establishment before, but I feel I have to after this past Sunday. So you call yourself a sports bar and your not prepared for a NATIONAL sporting event like the Woman's World Cup!!!!! I could not understand why you would not have enough wait staff on hand for an event such as this so that my friends and I, that are sitting at a table, did not have to order two beers at a time or even go to the bar and order a drink due to your wait staff being slow and under staffed. What's sad is that a few of my friends that I was sitting with kept stating that this is "typical JI King Street Grille" Also folks in my party had to litterally leave the table and look for our server to get our check once the game was over. Truly have some major concerns for this King Street Grill and its patrons come this upcoming football season. TV's great, food good, beer good if its not the second of the two you had to order at the same time thats a little warm now, and service well...... SUCKS!!!!!
Re: “Belgian Gelato”
Crazy prices for ordinary prefab icecream. gcfinest is right!
