Re: “Fulton Five”

Fulton Five is a diamond in the rough. After being tradionally trained in Italian cuisine, I have yet to find a more appealling restaurant. The loud atmosphere and tight quarters are made up for by knowledgeable staff and perfectly executed dishes. My only suggestion is to come with a big appetite and definitely try the tiramisu.

My boyfriend and I went the other night and I hate to say it but...it was definately not worth the cost. The service was ok but the food was a real bummer. Almost fourteen dollars for a tiny little bowl of pasta that was supposed to have asparagus in it. My boyfriend's meal wasn't much better. Twenty-five dollars for lamp that was supposed to be medium-rare but was instead raw. I was really disappointed with the whole experience. If you really want great food, great service, and fair prices go check out the Fat Hen on John's Island.

It has been a while since I have posted about Al Di La.
Its still the best Italian around the area. My favorite dish, although I love most of them, is the Fettuccine Bolognese. The bread they serve with the meal is so tasty also. Just remember to call ahead or get there early, the place stays packed! agent.guerry

A great place to eat- service is a little slow but worth the wait... (the kitchen is smaller than most restaurants in the downtown Charleston area). Although it's an Italian restaurant, the local atmosphere is definitely enticing with the feel of a closely knit community surrounding you. The wait staff was attentive and social, making the meal more comfortable than normal. I would definitely recommend a table for a romantic dinner or the bar for a night out with a friend.

I really enjoyed a fantastic meal and a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The service was fantastic, the food delicious and the atmosphere very pleasant for my family and I. I highly recommend this great place to family and friends. Will definitely be going back!

Took the family from upstate NY to Bocci's for the first time after hearing several good reviews from friends, but was sorely disappointed. We tried the spaghetti and meatballs, and eggplant parm. The sauce was not even as good as out of a jar, the meatballs had an unusual taste,and the eggplant just tasted like italian breadcrumbs. Service and atmosphere were OK, but they'd have to do a whole lot better for us to go back. Too many other places in CHS to try..suggest check out others first.

Horrible service, the servers and bartenders do not seem to know that they are there to wait on people. Terrible Food, bad atmosphere. I agree with everyone else. I would not dine here if it were the last restaurant in Charleston. DO NOT DINE HERE!!!!

I went to Joe Pasta for the first time in October 2007 and it was INCREDIBLE! Delicate pasta (I had the lasagna), amazing wine, impeccable, prompt, courteous service. I told all my friends, and even touristy strangers on the street wondering which restaurant to choose, that they MUST go to this restaurant - it is WONDERFUL!! A return trip with friends in December was an EMBARASSMENT! BURNED pasta (I ordered the exact same menu item as the first time because I had loved it SO much), so-so wine, sloppy, indifferent service......WHAT HAPPENED???? I could not even eat my entree because the bottom of the lasagna was so badly burned. It practically took an Act of Congress to get the waiter to take it away, let alone credit our bill for the inedible food (which they DID do before we left). Two months and the place had spiralled out of control.......WHAT HAPPENED???

I found Michaelangelos to be very family-oriented(kids night Thusday),with friendly staff and delicious italian fare. the thin crust pizza was also a hit. what better to end a great meal than homemade dessert!(chocolate mousse cake). Thanks for a great evening

Every restaurant has its off-days, and it looks like this restaurant has had one. I loved the atmosphere and the cheese sampler (appetizer) is definitely worth trying! It made our meal more fun and enjoyable to sample different things :) If you're looking for a nice night out with friends, family, or that special someone, I would definitely recommend this place. Request the courtyard - its very nice. The front room is nice as well, but watching people walk by can be distracting as it is open to the street. The one downside, I think, is that they don't play any Italian music which I think always enhances an Italian atmosphere.

I would certainly recommend Bocci's! They have a wonderful selection of different Italian dishes, wines, and appetizers and it is in a great location. The atmosphere is very Tuscan, and if you're looking for a nice dinner out or a good date locale, then this is it. Of course there are some nicer (as in fine dining) Italian places downtown, but if you don't want to go all out, this is the place for you. I take all my friends here who come in from out of town. After dinner, take a walk around downtown since it is located right near everything!

I would have to agree with the other posts. I love Italian and rarely have a bad experience with it. I would choose Fazoli's over going to Joe Pasta again. Our service was bad - we never received bread, while other tables did, and the food was just not good. It tasted like it came pre-prepared and frozen to the restaurant and they heated it back up in the microwave.

That place is awful. i got chicken alfredo take-out recently. When i got the food home it was plain noodles, no sauce, no chicken....just plain, cooked noodles. Seemed to be MUCH better when it was La LA Lucies, andyone know if it is the same owners?

I am a charlestonian that enjoys dinning out. I want to cover alot of ground and when I find a gem I revisit that restaraunt. I took some of my younger friends to Joe Pasta, not expecting the best food in Charleston but just a good tasting, fast, affordable meal. Little did I know that I was taking my friends into the worst dining experience of their lives. Our waitress was uniformed and clumsy. She sold us on a special that 20 minutes after ordering, came to inform us that the kitchen wouldn't make it for us because they were about to close. She informed us of this at 9pm...the restaraunt was closing at 11pm. After that she spilled a drink on one of my friends and had no means of cleaning up her mess. While we waited over 90 minutes for our food, kitchen staff came out of the kitchen to eat from the pasta buffet that we sat beside. When I asked the waitress to speak with the manager, the manager sent the waitress back to offer free bread. Free bread?! Gee Thanks. I told her to get the manager. The owner came to the table, which I politely pulled aside to not make a scene and told him about the problems with our dinning experience. Instead of offering a solution, the owner made me feel like I was wrong for being upset and told me we didn't have to eat if we didn't want to. At this point it was 10:40pm and my friends were hungry and tired. I told the owner to bring out the food and we can talk after the meal. The food came out shortly after and it was horrible, not to mention one of my friends got sick from it. I could go on, but to wrap this up, I would suggest to everyone to avoid eating at this restaraunt at all costs. If this was the only restaraunt in South Carolina and we were in a famine, I would walk to another state.

My wife and I had dinner at Bacco by chance on a Friday evening and were really impressed by the quality of the food, the attentiveness of the staff and the experience in general. Although we originally planned for a quick and inexpensive dinner out, we couldn’t help but to let our stomachs get the best of us. Even with a bottle of wine, appetizers (olives!), salads and delicious homemade pasta entrees, the bill remained reasonable – particularly when you consider how delicious everything is. We ended the meal with some of the best coffee and biscotti I can remember. As so many other restaurants begin to lose focus on food and service at the cost of being trendy, it’s great to know that a wonderful Italian meal is just over a couple of bridges at Bacco.

Being a "downtowner" & considering myself somewhat cultured in dining, I must say Mercato is definitely in the top of my list of places to dine. The atmosphere of Mercato's is one of the best in Charleston. (It reminds me of one of those good movies, where you feel like youre in disney world... kind of surreal) The food is great, the menu may be small so make sure in the mood for high end pastas or pizzas when you go. If youre not in the mood for food, at least have a drink at the bar, you wont be disappointed.

Was very dissapointed with this restauraunt. I had heard great things so decided to give it a try. It was late on a Sat night and it was actually not busy at all. We sat in the front area with several other small occupied tables. We ordered a bottle of wine that didn't end up coming out until after we got our appetizers. We overheard the couple next to us complain that one of them had not gotten their drink yet and their main entre had already came out. The food was ok, but the service was awful. The waitress was very absent to not only us but the others seated around us. We expected more.

I thought the meal was outstanding. Ordered the lasagna and can not say enough about how delicious this dish was. For $17 bucks, it was absolutely the best lasagna I have ever had. They not only make their own pasta, but also their own sausage!
