Re: “Domestic spying is legal because the government says it is

"I didn't think that I would ever see, my own country spy on me"
Apparently they don't teach kids about J Edgar Hoover's FBI and their millions of illegally gotten files on American citizens. This is nothing new. Only the methods have gotten less detectable.

Re: “White supremacy and mental illness take the stage in Red

This level of on-stage sophistication is much needed and is sure to be appreciated by locals seriously willing to confront these kinds of issues. To grow as a community, dispelling of myth and assumption is critical...Charleston is certainly in need of a push toward the new reality in which we all find ourselves, and the arts propel us as always. Anxiously awaiting the production of Red.

Re: “UPDATE: Charleston Waterkeeper in non-profit purgatory

SHOW ME THE MONEY!

I want to see some results here.

What was administration paying themselves? Just post a press release, if its not negative then nothing to worry about right?

"Too many times I've been served beers in a glass caked with residual soaps or lipstick stains"

I know, right? Whenever I consume toxins that kill cells in my body, I always make sure it is out of a sterile container.

I'm a fan of all whistle blowers, and I agree about PRISM, however I don't see why a DNA swab is any different than a fingerprint.

Re: “Domestic spying is legal because the government says it is

I didn't think that I would ever see, my own country spy on me. Look down on me by satellite; record my downloads, every byte. And all the while tell me I'm free, then sit around and laugh with glee. Problem is they also have the capacity to spy on other countries in such a way to upset the balance of power. This can lead to other nations considering retaliation, whether or not this technology really gives the US an unfair advantage, whether socially, economically or militarily. The tipping point may simply be the assumption that it will.

Re: “Why are so many criminals on house arrest free to roam?

The Solicitor's office can get Defendants picked up when they want to. It's not hard for them to get warrants or court orders when they need one. The basic problem is that everything is so understaffed and underfunded that no one has time to do their job any longer. The Jail is full. The prisons are full. We run both for much less than most other states. The entire system is being run according to conservative values, top to bottom.

Re: “Why are so many criminals on house arrest free to roam?

Oh give me a home, where the criminals roam, and the rapist and crackheads all play, where seldom is heard, a sensible word, as our domestic tranquility goes away.. Home, Home, in SC, where the rapist and crackheads all play... where the judges fail, and let scum out on bail, who should never see the light of day...

Re: “Hearts and Plugs gets serious about the business side of the music biz

"It can't be too poppy. It can't be mainstream."

Annnnd that's where I stopped reading. Best of luck on your business, and yes, a lot of "mainstream" music is terrible, but to completely shut yourself off from that genre (And how does one even define mainstream anyway? What everyone else likes that you dislike?) based on vague pretension seems antithetical to your business objectives. Are you going to honestly tell me you would not sign The Beatles or Rolling Stones?

Re: “Domestic spying is legal because the government says it is

This issue should be one that brings us all together. We need to stop this shit immediately and make Congress reexamine the Patriot Act before they make any further votes to extend any provisions.

Our elected officials and their appointees have abused the trust we placed in them.
We are the employers, they are the employees.

PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA: What I can say unequivocally is that if you are a U.S. person, the NSA cannot listen to your telephone calls, and the NSA cannot target your emails --

CHARLIE ROSE: And have not.

OBAMA: And have not. They cannot and have not, by law and by rule, and unless they -- and usually it wouldn’t be 'they,' it’d be the FBI — go to a court, and obtain a warrant, and seek probable cause.

I'm curious, what is a "U.S. Person" ?

Well, seeing as the Terrace doesn't have a full liquor license, the only "drink" we'll be able to have with them during the Q&A is beer or wine.
