I thought it was a good effort for a first time event. Next year i wouldn't offer the groupon deals and sell tix on eventbrite instead of just at the restaurant. Looking forward to next years more organized attempt. Props to the brewers and organizers for trying to make the best out of chaos.
Oh joy, and now they're deleting posts & comments on their Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/17NORTH - instead of censoring, maybe you should APOLOGIZE and offer refunds to those that didn't get any beer/food!
low country disaster. 34$ and i came away with 2-4oz beers. worst planning ever. everyone i talked to left without getting food due to the extremely long. the beer lines were no better. wait 20 minutes for a 4oz beer. no thanks
This was a disaster...unfortunately, much like the approach this restaurant takes in everything, they had never attended a full blown Beer Event in this area before...the attendees are patient but expect enough beer and food as well as reasonable lines to deal with...simply stated, this sucked
Sucked! Too many people, not enough beer. They tried to a hit a home run and came out with a double at best
Worst festival ever. Ran out of beer. Over sold. Food line 3+ hours long.
What's the format?
Wouldn't a 14-barrel batch be the equivalent of 434 gallons, with a barrel of beer being defined as 31 gallons in the US?
Definitely keeping an eye out for this beer. Saw it on a beer list somewhere last year and couldn't believe they actually brewed with oysters - I hadn't heard of an oyster stout before that. Now we have two to look forward to every year - COAST's and Holy City's.
One of my favorite seasonal beers from COAST. Can't wait to try it!
Overall an awesome job, I would like to see more food vendors or tell them to be better prepared to get slammed later in the day. The food lines were very long and slow later on in the afternoon. And maybe a few more por-to-lets or at least spread them around. Those were minor inconveniences, however, and did not ruin the event. Great job!
$50 is really steep for an overcrowded venue; I did not come close to getting my $50 worth. I'll pass on Brewvival next year. Brewgrass and Winter Warmer in Asheville are a much better deals. This was a huge disappointment for me and I have attended many similar events in the Charleston, Columbia, and Asheville.
Was very overcrowded! I did not get get my $50 worth by any stretch of the imagination. I have been to many similar events in Charleston, Columbia, and Asheville. Brewgrass and Winterwarmer in Asheville are great and cost less to boot. I hope Brewvival improves but I'll not take the chance of wasting another $50 next year.
Another great party by Jaime & David and Scott & Rich. For those that think $50 is high: Are you kidding me?!?!? With all the cask conditioned beer on hand, it was well worth $50 and then some, not to mention some of the beers you won't find just any where (say, the 2010 Sexual Chocolate). Looking forward to Brewvival 2013. Keep up the good work!!
Read Brewmasters table and will definitely ge thtis one although as the review said, the writing is dry in places. Oliver knows his stuff.
I would suggest that You get Michael Jackson's Beer Companion as a first read. It is a little out of date, but will give you a firm foundation on which to build.
Sounds like a great book to have. Any mention of any of our esteemed local brewers, such as COAST or Palmetto?
I'm getting a copy rush delivered!
My god man. I'm at work right now SALIVATING over this article. 3:15 can't come fast enough today. GENE'S HERE I COME!!!
I have heard it sells out in NC, but seems to be amply supplied here. My friend back from Raleigh said a store had a two bottle limit on it.
Have you tried any specialty shops in town like the Chas. Beer Exchange, Bottles, House of Brews, etc.?
Re: “Homebrewers and micros team up for the Lowcountry Beer Festival”
Issue#1 - Sounds like it was oversold, which can understandably happen with any new event. Based on the local-focus for beer, etc., seems like hearts were in the right place. Didn't go, and can't say I'd be happy about paying for next-to-nothing, but there's always next year.
Issue #2 - Censoring negative comments on your FB wall undermines credibility, is easily avoidable, and should be PR 101. Respond, take ownership, and move on, but don't censor comments from your own customers, whose money you now have, and who have legitimate gripes about what went down. Bad form.
