David Tyler Appreciation Day, 11/16

We just received an updated-updated list of bands from organizer Carroll Brown (pictured at left) for the all-evening “David Tyler Appreciation Day” set for Sunday, Nov. 16. Singer/guitarist Brown organized this four-venue benefit series for local musician David Tyler.

“Our great friend and fellow full time musician has been battling kidney cancer and unable to work since June,” says Brown. “David is one of Charleston’s finest musicians. He has a wonderful and fully supportive wife and son and hopes to return to work full time.”

Things kick off at the Spiritline Cruise on the harbor (the boat leaves from Fountain Walk dock at Aquarium Wharf) from 3-6 p.m., featuring tunes on the top deck from The High Tide Band and The Benefit Band (Tyler, Jesse Wales, Wayne Winkle, and Larry Farina), and sets on the second level from Hugh Price, Susie Summers & Al with Brown (pictured at right), and Sharon Cumbee.

That’s followed by three separate shows across town in the evening. At Dunleavy’s Pub on Sullivan’s Island, Brown, Cumbee, Summers, Price and other guests (Ronnie Johnson and Frank Waddell are not on the current list). They’ll perform a variety of acoustic folk and country music at 6:30 p.m.

At the Pour House on James Island, the Call Mama Band (Bob Tobin, David Owens, Ted McKee, and Bruce Roberts) and Allan Thompson & Blue Plantation Band play a mix of bluegrass and folk styles between 6:30-9 p.m. (Hugh Price and Dangermuffin are not on the roster now).

The Sunfire Grill & Bistro in West Ashley hosts acoustic sets from Jay Miley and Pete Ledbetter from 6:30-11 p.m. (Calvin Taylor and Chris Tidestrom are off the list).

“All acts schedules to appear are subject to change. All monies go directly to David Tyler,  all  musicians and venues are donating their services. Spiritline Cruises will donate their facilities, staff, and all profits from cash bar onboard the Spirit of Carolina to David Tyler.”

I've known David Tyler for many years, he is one of best musicians in charleston and a great person. I just found out about his illness, as I live in Atlanta now and have not spoken to David in a few years. My prayers are with him and his family, take care buddy, Michael Green Atlanta, Ga. magicinaction@live.com
