Feast Like There's No Morrow

What else would a wizard and his friends order from Big Gun Burger but a burger?

What else would a wizard and his friends order from Big Gun Burger but a burger?

Here in the Land of Charles, there's going to come a time when you'll need a late-night meal. Whether after a day of trying to outsmart some blood-thirsty dragons, mastering a magic missile spell, or having smoked a little too much of the hobbit's weed, we've got you covered — and it'll be faster than anything you could forage for yourself.

A.C.'s Bar & Grill
467 King St.
Downtown
(843) 577-6742
Daily 11 a.m.-1:30 a.m.

A.C.'s welcomes all creatures of the realm to its "no-frills watering hole," where on any given day you can find princesses bellied up to the bar next to dwarves. Nab a spot in a booth and order a hamburger or chicken fingers while sipping on the $2.50 witches brew of the month to help prepare you for whatever adventures tomorrow brings — even if it's just one nasty hangover.

Big Gun Burger Shop
137 Calhoun St.
Downtown
(843) 789-3821
Mon.-Wed 4 p.m.-2 a.m
Thurs.-Sun. 11 a.m.-2 a.m.

You'll never be able to really slice off a bugbear's head with a battle axe until you fill up on some protein and carbs. While greasy foods may not improve your sword-handling skills, a grilled hamburger — like their Bungalow Burger with bacon, caramelized onions, havarti, and a dill mayo — just might help you absorb any mead you might enjoy after celebrating your victory against the dark elves. And with specialty burgers and delectable sides like mac 'n' cheese fritters, Big Gun Burger Shop can get you the nourishment you need to avoid a morning slump after downing a couple— or six — of their $2 PBR cans.

Butcher & Bee
654 King St.
Downtown
(843) 619-0202
Daily lunch 11 a.m.-3 p.m.
Daily dinner 6 p.m.-12 a.m.
Thurs.-Sat. late-night 11 p.m.-3 a.m.

Butcher & Bee is hidden in a nook under a bridge and behind an alchemy factory that turns grains into magical elixirs. Once there, you'll be able to enjoy sandwiches — Philly BLTs, bàhn mís, and many more — and one of the best burgers in the kingdom, not to mention their delicious sides. You'll want your own serving of curried Brussels sprouts; they alone will give you the strength to defeat an entire army of goblins. That is, if you didn't over imbibe on some of the ale you brought yourself since the Bee is BYOB.

Dell'z Deli
1-A Cannon St.
Downtown
(843) 722-5376
Mon.-Thurs. 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
Fri.-Sat. 11 a.m.-5 p.m., 11:30 p.m.-3 a.m.

As everyone knows, elves prefer their food without faces. Luckily, Dell'z has them covered with vegan and vegetarian dishes. Their nachos are out of this realm, but so is the Snobby Joe and the Hummer. But don't worry carnivores, they've got meat too, from the Tummy Yummy Mahi Mahi to La Chic Ha and Beef.

Gilroy's Irish Pizza Pub
353 King St.
Downtown
(843) 937-9200
Daily 11 a.m.-4:20 a.m.

Sometimes you may need to bribe, trick, or tempt evil beings. Consider a pie from Gilroy's the Trojan horse of late-night eats. The pizzas are big enough for tiny hobbits to crawl out of and attack, but it may be easier to just let the evil sorcerer you're dueling get distracted by his pizza envy. The chicken bacon ranch is always a good option, but if you're in a hurry, grab a pre-made one.

Jimmy John's
51 George St.
Downtown
(843) 727-2550
Daily, 11-3 a.m.

After a long day of jousting, we don't blame a knight for not wanting to leave his or her castle. Thankfully, Jimmy John's will be at the door to your keep with turkey, ham, tuna, or any other sammy faster than a teleporting gnome.

Juanita Greenberg's
439 King St.
Downtown
(843) 723-6224
Daily 11 a.m.-1 a.m.

Dragons are not the only creatures that breathe fire. After feasting on the hot sauces at Juanita's, you'll feel like you could singe someone with your spicy breath. But that shouldn't stop you from dousing your quesadillas and Nachos Royale (a giant nacho pizza, basically) with the good stuff.

Kickin' Chicken
337 King St.
Downtown
(843) 805-5020
Mon.-Sat. 11 a.m.-1 a.m.
Sun. 11 a.m.-11 p.m.

Banish the evil Sir Hangry to another kingdom far, far away with a late-night stop at Kickin' Chicken, where you can vanquish the beast with chicken fingers, sandwiches, or Bobby Fries — hot fries topped with ranch dressing, bacon, and mixed cheeses. Just be sure to get all three with a side of the Chicken's special sauce. It has magical powers that'll knock hunger right out.

Moe's Crosstown Tavern
714 Rutledge Ave.
Downtown
(843) 641-0469
moescrosstowntavern.com
Mon-Sat: 11 a.m.-2 a.m.
Sun. 10:30-2 a.m.

Fear not, Moe's appetizers are not the work of the Dark Lord Sauron, but we understand why you might think so. How else would someone be able to fry up mac 'n' cheese into perfect pillows of crispy goodness? Moe's only serves apps late-night, but the chili cheese fries, spring rolls, and poppers will keep you full through the witching hour.

Pizzeria Di Giovanni
40 N. Market St.
Downtown
(843) 727-6767
Mon.-Wed. 10 a.m.-10 p.m.
Thurs.-Sat. 10-3 a.m.

It happens to the best of us. You go and drink too much mead at the local tavern and promise to buy the whole place food. Here's a solution that'll make you feel as smart as Hermoine: grab a 28-inch pie from Giovanni's. It's big enough to feed all the Knights of the Round Table, so you'll be saving both face and money. Giovanni's also serves up strombolis and calzones.

Recovery Room Tavern
685 King St
Downtown
(843) 727-0999
Mon-Sat. 4 p.m.-2 a.m.
Sun. 12 p.m.-2 a.m.

Some inventions will have you saying "by Merlin's beard" for centuries. The Rec Room's tachos — tater tot nachos — are one of those inventions. The tavern's jalapeño poppers, mozzarella sticks, and jerk wings aren't too shabby either.

Social Restaurant & Wine Bar
188 E. Bay St. #201
Downtown
(843) 577-5665
Sun.-Mon. full-menu until 10 p.m., Pizzas until 11 p.m.
Tues.-Wed. full menu until 11 p.m., Pizzas until midnight
Thurs.-Sat. full-menu til midnight, Pizzas until 1 a.m.

The wine cellar at Social will make you feel like a VIK — very important knight. But don't let it go to your head. Social's bottles of elixirs are for everyone in the realm and their pizzas remind you that even royalty likes cheesy bread goodness. The pies are served until 1 a.m. Thursday-Saturday.

Tattooed Moose
1137 Morrison Drive
Downtown
(843) 227-2990
Daily 11:30 a.m.-2 a.m.

You may have just won the jousting match and want to brag, but be warned, Tattooed Moose displays their victories as well — and on their wall, no less. Enjoy an order of their duck fat fries and the Lucky No. 1 Sub, and if you're lucky, maybe the Moose will regale you with the story of how he defeated his cunning opponents, like the demonic squirrel posted above the kitchen.

Off Peninsula

The Beach Bar
1124 Sam Rittenberg Blvd
West Ashley
(843) 212-3100
beachbar843.com
Daily 11 a.m.-1 a.m.

After a day of warfare, you need to relax. So why not trek on over to The Beach Bar and imagine you're on an island? Sure, they might not have super-sized turkey drumsticks, but their wings are more than satisfying. Plus, they're only 50 cents on Sundays. If wings aren't your kind of thing, don't fret. The whole menu is available until 1 a.m. every night and features seafood, from sauteed shrimp to wasabi pea encrusted tuna, sandwiches, and more stomach sustaining eats to make sure you're ready to play the next day.

Early Bird Diner
1644 Savannah Hwy
West Ashley
(843) 277-2353
earlybirddiner.com
Mon.-Thurs. 7 a.m.-10:30 p.m.
Fri. and Sun. 10-3 p.m.
Fri. and Sat. 5 p.m.-4 a.m.

For those venturing west of the Ashley, park your fine steed outside of this Savannah Highway diner for late-night nourishment. Ye can't go wrong with the chicken and waffles, but we think it's sometimes best to end the night on a sweet note with one of their homemade ice creams, like their oatmeal creme pie.

Home Team BBQ
1205 Ashley River Rd
West Ashley
(843) 225-7427
Daily full-menu until 9:30 p.m.
Daily munchie menu 9:30 p.m.-1:30 a.m.

If you're wandering West Ashley after dark, leave your weapons or wands behind and get some barbecue munchies and drinks at Home Team. You can make Mondays a lot better with $1 PBR cans and $4 Jagerbombs or head over on hump day for $3 domestics. Their late-night menu features some of our favorite appetizers, like their barbecue nachos and sliders, and is served until 1:30 a.m. And we all know there's nothing like sleeping on a stomach stuffed with Southern snacks.

Waffle House
325 Savannah Hwy
West Ashley
(843) 766-0717
wafflehouse.com
Daily, 24 hours

If you've just been scattered and smothered in a sword fight with the Black Knight, turn to Waffle House for some breakfast. We're talking waffles, eggs, patty melts, and all the bacon you could dream of, no matter what the time. You'll be back on that horse in no time.
