You say you want an Evolution

Evolution Art Fest continues with more events

If you've been experiencing cultural withdrawals since Spoleto wrapped up, have heart — The Evolution Art Festival is still in full swing. Event director Phillip Hyman offers the festival as a platform for up-and-coming artists to get their name out there. It's also a great chance for locals to catch the type of art they weren't exposed to in Spoleto, from graffiti to children's art.

On Thursday, filmmaker (and City Paper contributor) Nick Smith tries his hand at live theater with Evolution 9, described as an anthology play with an evolutionary theme. From an amoebic blob to dinosaurs, all the way to the Beatles, Smith explores how the times, they've been a' changin'.

Friday night brings us back to the The Meeting Place for the Reclaim Charleston Event, featuring panel discussions on topics such as gentrification, reclaiming housing and space for the people, political geography, and more. A number of groups and organizations such as Picture the Homeless and Take Back the Land bring their opinions to the forum.

Saturday includes all-day action at various North Charleston favorites such as EVO Pizzeria, Sesame Burgers and Beer, and Madra Rua Irish Pub. Art and music come together at these venues, and many more to satisfy all the artistic cravings you might have.
